Long tube install WTF...PITA

How the hell do you get these flopping things in

WTF....I cant believe this.....I can't get either side in and I took off my steering shaft and I took off my Alternator bracket on the other side and I still cant get them in I dont want to scratch them anymore I already got a couple scratch on the ceramic....

If there is anybody in my area that can help I am willing to pay

Undo the motor mounts. Jack the motor up.

Or shoulda bought Bassani's...where each primary comes loose from the collector and header flange. Makes them a breeze to install...

Done this a few times - driver's side goes in good from below, passenger side from top or below.

Get the motor up high, a long prybar can do wonders. Put some tape on them to keep them from getting scratched on the kmember/bellhousing.

Tape is a good idea tho i was using towels but di get a couple scrathes on them

i can't believe your having problems, I slipped the passenger side through the top, took the valve cover off and it slipped right down in, and the drivers side went up through the bottom with the shaft out of the car. You have to put the drivers side header parallel with the bottom of the engine and then sort of fold it up into the engine bay and it should slip right in...

Drop you a board and a floor jack under the bellhousing or oil pan and undo the motor mounts, it'll give you all the room ya need. Doing longtubes on an AODE/4R70W is a PITA - bellhousing is large.

i helped installed hooker headers like those on my uncle's 93 5.0 and it wasnt difficult even though it took time. i say if your not confident installing them, just take it to a local shop and make sure everything is done correctly. its not worth breaking an expensive part and getting injured.

Very true

I used a engine lift when I put mine in. after a while you won't care foe the ceramic.

well the thing is that lifting my engine wont really give me too much. Becuase of my TKO and my motor is set back an inch so its not gonna go very far. but im gonna give it another go at it today.

Nope I am trying to find some help....I need an extra pair on hands....This has been this cars story so it wouldn't surprise me.

If you have the motor up (even a little), having someone with a long prybar or pipe to nudge it over in the direction you need will do the trick.

Thanks for the tip. When you lift the motor is about an inch or do i have to clear the motor mounts?

I get them up as high as I can before it bottoms out on the firewall. Lift it slowly and watch for clearance/snags as you go up.

Watch fingers etc when moving it around.

Have you tried from bottom up? Maybe if you get the car high enough it may work. Also, you may want to try removing the steering shaft for more clearance.
