how hard is it to install long tubes. i just got my 98 gt 5-speed wed. and ordered and installed the jegs off road h-pipe kit and flowmaster catback. install only took 2 hours or so and was easy for anyone that might be wondering. i was wondering how hard it is to install long tubes, it looks like a PITA. im wondering if the inner fender well comes out to expose the side of the motor. im also considering the upper plenum/ 75mm tb instead of the LT's. which one should i get considering easy of install and power gain along with price. which brands are the best of each. i read that the bbk's i think it was have to come off for tranny work wheras the hookers dont. anything you can give me i would appreciate.

thanks
nate

hmm..nothing like a 5.0 the whole top of the motor has to come out..u cant reach down and touch the header like u can on the 50's..better find a good tech. 2 do it..

hmm u should really reconsider LT's on a non power improved car..

I have a set of BBK LT's on my '00 GT. I took it to a muffler shop and it still took about 7 hours to do. Dont know how hard it is to do on the pre-99's but we had to lift the passenger side of the engine and remove the starter. Not something I would try in the driveway. But thats just me.

the shop alone will charge you almost as much as the price for those bbks. I wouldnt recommend anyne doing it on thier garage unless you got a lift in there. but from what i know is that that BBK's are a B**h to put on. since they have that special bend to their pipes

This is a true statement. It cost me $400 for the install, and that was with me down there helping. But they had been sitting in my basement for over 6 months so I just wanted them on and done with. And yes, they were a b***h to put on, but I would do it all over again if I had to.

looks like im going with the upper plenum and tb for now then.
enjoy your 1-5 hp.. It may be a major pain to install them, but it would be worth spending 800 on long tubes to have a shop put them in rather than wasting 400 on useless plenum and tb, just my $.02

do it do it! It is a lot of work and took my non mechanical ass about 3 days. I did it on with jackstands! on my 2001 I could access the top row of header bolts from the top of the engine by raising that particular side of the engine with a floor jack and a 2x4 along the oil pan bolt rail. You have to raise the passenger side anyways to fit the header in there. If you have someone to help you, do it, do it!

I used this link as a reference, http://www.fnsweet.com/garage/lt_install/index.shtml and the instructions from BBK.

if you ever plan on going SC in the future you will thank yourself for having long tubez.

you have to lift the engine, and your new h pipe will be useless with long tube headers you will have to buy a new mid pipe or do a lot of welding. They sound bad ass but are a pain in the ass to install. The plenum/tb on a na car will give you maybe 5hp. Why dont you go with the pi heads before installing headers or plenums?
