I just installed long tubes and they touch the clutch cable about 4 inches from the bellhousing. Has anyone here experienced this and what could be done about it?

I had that problem with my '86 and the LT's........ what I did was attach a fabricated wire strap to ensure the clutch cable didn't contact the header and create a gap between them, and wrap the clutch cable in a double looped section of header wrap I "sewed" myself. The following pic is what I did for the automatic transmission shifter cable of a SN95 to prevent it from getting burned for a 3rd. time...... worked great in both cases.

Its way easier than building all that heat shielding stuff. I've had the same BBK long tubes for 5 years and no clutch cable problems

I did not have a problem with BBK Longtubes and a stock clutch cable on my daily driver.

Rerouting could help.

This reminds me when people get 02 sensor wire extensions. They do not need them. Just reroute them and they reach, no problem.
