Long Tubes

they are a tad on the small size. usually they come in 1 5/8s or 1 3/4 (more for higher HP motors). dont get me wrong, they will be better than stock, but i had to redo my exhaust, live by my moto (well, for exhuasts anyway): do it once, do it right.

Yes thats true.. but i'm getting them DIRT cheap, so i figure why not right? I don't mind installing them, car probably won't get on the road till next summer.

But i'm sure long tube headers with 1 1/2" primaries are still good for over 300hp eh?

ROTM. I've seen over 300 with the stock headers. Not hard to accomplish. Probably get a 2-1/2" O/R pipe to go with them, then you'll be ready when it comes time for bigger headers :nice: And you'll be following Nate's motto, because in this case, bigger isn't always better.

Hey Nate, you ready to lineup? We've got the vert all but finished. All we need are tranny fluid, diff fluid and a tach. Got the fluids. Hopefully the tach won't be too much trouble. Factory tach worked before he put in the shiftlight. I'm thinkin maybe he cut the tach wire to feed the light. I hope it's so simple

well, as of right now, i have some things to fine tune. i need a new header gasket. other than that, its running decent. how are those 225s working on that 408? thanks again for those axles, the make that 5 lug look oh so nice. when ya going to the track.

Back to topic: yeah, you can make 300 with them. is there any way that you can dremel them out a bit to give yourself some extra room?

I think 1 1/2 inch long tubes are perfect for a stock or even a mild bolt on car. They'll be better than your stockers due to less crimping in the tubing and since they're of a smaller diameter than your run of the mill 1 5/8 variety LT, you'll retain and maybe even gain a pile of low end torque. What kind are they....to my knowledge, Hooker used to be the only one who made a LT header for the Fox Body, but I think they discontinued it a few years ago?

Remeber, even though you're getting the headers dirt cheap, you're going to need another midpipe since your stock one will no longer fit.

Haven't finished putting it together yet. Just got that Procharger car done yesterday. The only thing left for him is a blowoff valve and a tune. Now it's my turn for some quality garage time. :nice: I think I'm going to lock down the overhead doors so I don't get distracted by other people's projects for a while.

On a side note: I heard there's a certain white T-Top 87GT in town that just got an F-3. :nice: Just what he needed. He must've run into some wealth that I haven't heard about yet

That sucks that someone alreads snagged them. Sometimes when you run into deals you just have to grab them.

1.5" primary LT's would be ideal for your car. You might have scene a horse or two top end with 1 5/8ths, probally above your shift point anyways, but you would have more than made up for it with your mid range torque with the 1.5" LT's.
