Longtube headers on an AOD..

Ok. I searched bit didn't quite find what I was looking for. MY buddy wants long tubes in his automatic. Other than MAC, who makes them for the auto? He doesn't want to go old school 3" collector style or pull the steering shaft. Help me help him....he has no computer working so I get the " Did you find anything yet " question all day...lol

There are one or two companies that make em for AOD, but the only one I know is MAC.

I ended up having a set made. A 351w with an aod was very hard to find headers for.

I have Hedman LT headers on my 91LX with an AOD. They do have 3" collectors and I did have to pull my stearing shaft. I also had to remove the motor mount bolts and jack the motor up a bit to get them to fit in.

Chris - How is the quality of the Hedman?

Bassani, Accufab, and Hedman offer AOD compatible ones.

I'd say Hedman are about the same as MAC. I haven't had any problems with them. They didn't have provisions for 02 sensors, but I got mine for free from my dad when he went to a big block. One thing I forgot to say it does touch the side of the trick flow AOD trany pan. I had to grind a little off the flange for a little bit of clearance.

The Bassini step headers fit,, And don't have to pull the shaft. They are individual tube with a slip on collector.

Why does he hate a 3" collector?

Mac offers them both in 2.5" and 3."

Bassani is $, but are nice. The step occurs about a foot down the pipe on them.

He's never known anyonethat got them to seal right. And you have to custom a x-pipe. He also refuses to put the steering shaft through a header....he calls it poor engineering....
