This weekend I installed my MAC longtubes, prochamber, catback, and removed some of the smog equipment - boy what a pain! It ended up taking around 12-14 hours grand total but the results were well worth it! I wanted to put this post up since you very rarely can find the "after" stories while searching.

I went in from the bottom with both headers - the driver's side was cake - I unbolted the steering rack and removed the convertible bracing and it slid straight in. The passenger's side... well it was another story. After removing the starter I didn't have the car up high enough on the jack stands to stab the header. After getting it WAY up in the air it worked out just fine.

Then came the bolts - I used the bolts that came with the MAC kit and bought some stainless lock washers and a touch of grease on the bolts. The trick to getting the LTs lined was up was to get some 4in long 3/8 - 16 studs (made some with allthread) and put them on either end of the header and hange the gasked (used Felpro 1415). That helped me get lined up. The individual flanges all lined up except for one - I had to push it left to right until it lined up with the exhaust port.

The exhaust bolt behind the powersteering pump was a pain in the butt. We ended up cutting the open end off a box end wrench to get it tightened. 12-point box end wrenches are definately a must. Speaking of "we", definately have help with this project - no way I could have done it alone.

Bolting up the prochamber and the catback was a piece of cake compared to getting the LTs in there - everything lined up great.

Pitfalls I ran into and remaining tings to do:
My dipstick would not fit. I don't know if I'm dumb or what but I could not get it to fit how it used to no matter how I bent it up. I'm about to order #FMS-M-6750-C303 from Summit.

I broke the EGR tube (tube between EGR valve and #2 tube on header) in half. I was trying to bend it about 1/8in in a vice and that sucker just snapped - shoulda used some heat. I got some exhaust bandages and patched it together but I've gotta find another one.

I've also got to "officially" plug the fresh air tube in the prochamber - I've got an exhaust patch and hose clamp over it. Don't want to weld anything to the prochamber - I'd rather keep it "clean".

I need to plug the holes in the back of the heads - I've got a clamped off rubber hose plugging this. Going "wazee" for this.

I've also got to get a short belt to bypass the smog pump (it's not hooked to anything right now). I've got a metallic rattle that is really loud around 2000rpms - with my old exhaust I thought it was a leak but now with the old exhaust and it unplugged it's louder - hoping that bypassing it will clear it up.

Lastly I have to find some sort of heat shield for my starter - it rides EXTREMELY close to the headers - I'm talking like 1/8in or less. When it does go out the header either has to come all the way off the engine or VERY loosely bolted - there's just no room to drop the starter out. Definately getting a mini starter next go-around.

All in all the exhaust was definately a win. It was a lot of work and required purchasing more misc parts than I anticipated but after driving around today... well it was all worth it. Although sound is VERY subjective I think it is awesome. I didn't want anything obnoxiously loud but I definately wanted some rumble and this combo definately lived up to the expectation. It won't attract police but it's definately loud enough to turn heads when I get on it. The power gains are there as well - definately more oomph down low!

Longtubes rock!

Always good to meet someone local - got any pics of your 'stang? I'm curious to see if I've seen you around town.

Also - I got my MAC stuff from mustang2race@dsr3.com at a GREAT price. Ordered from him twice and had nothing but awesome service.

I'd love to check out that hood - what vendor did you go with? I'd love to get one. I work on South Glenstone (off of Bluebonnet right near the library) and take Siegen to get home so I bet we pass right by each other.

Well I work graveyard shifts =P
I am not sure what vendor it is...my stock hood flew off on the interstate, I paid 100$ for this used hood from a friend so the paint is a faded spoty crappy black..the rest of the body on the car is faded red, so instead of getting a halfass paint job on the hood im gonna save up and get the whole car painted at once. Recommend any paint places in the area? Hoping to spend 1000$ or less, not much but any paint job is better than what I currently have.

BTW, check out the local racing club, www.getonitracing.com check out the forums we could use another stanger.

I'd bet you could save some money if you removed most of the trim beforehand and did some of the prep work yourself. Paint sure isn't cheap.

In town I'd try:
Fact-o-bake or Maaco. You may can also call the guys at Ascension Pony or Hwy. 44 Paint & Body to get the names of some good painters.

There's always some sorta Mustang in front of L&S. They do tuning and chip burns - I've seen a few 'stangs on the dyno at Thunder as well - Thunder is mostly a Chevy shop though.

The Maaco is on Florida as you head out to Denham just past Brian Harris.

Good to know there are some Mustang guys around Baton Rouge that are on these forums!

I got them from the guy at the email address above (in post #3). EDIT: He is a MAC reseller - if I remember correctly it was around 7-800 for the entire setup shipped to my door. There is a noticable difference - of course I went from stock exhaust to LTs, Prochamber and Mac catback so it's a big jump. I haven't gotten on it too hard up high yet but the torque down low is breaking the tires loose like never before.

The sound is awesome - I didn't want anything obnoxiously loud and this setup is just right - I'd post clips but I'm sure it wouldn't come out right - I've never heard an exhaust clip that did.

The install was a PITA. I've done lots of car work including rebuilding the engine in my 72mach1 and putting it and the tranny back in by myself but this install was much more difficult. If I had to do it a second time it wouldn't be so bad now that I've learned some tricks (see first post) - most notably getting the car up HIGH and using studs on the two end header bolts. It's a tight fit but it all went together nicely.

Wow, I remember going through that install on my 94 GT AODE. To this day I still have nightmares about installing that passenger side header . That thing would just not go in, took me about the same amount of time to complete the install. Just hope you won't have to drop your tranny anytime soon, I installed a stall conveter after I did my longtubes and ended up having to unbolt them and take'em out just so I could have enough room to drop the tranny. Not fun at all.

I hear ya there. Halfway through the install I realized that when my starter goes out I am going to have to completely unbolt the passenger side header to get it out! Wish I would have gotten a nice mini starter to put on (the stock one is CLOSE to the collector).

I got some heat wrap and heat shield today so that will go on next weekend.

Sage: I'm definately going to hit up on the getonitracing forums - looks like some good stuff! Let me know when you put your dumps on, I want to help and/or hear it!
