Longtubes on a Fox. Any ground clearance issues when lowered? Steering shaft?

Might i add. Very nice, very nice car. Yours looks as low as mine does. You got a nice rake stance too. About how many inches do you have between the lowest part of the exhaust and the actuall ground? Few inches? And do you go up any drive ways? Speed bumps i'm not worried about, cause i never go over any! I'll drive around them in the grass anyway lol.

No probs.

Here is what I had to do to put them in. Pull the starter on the passenger side and uncouple the steering shaft on the drivers side. Put the headers in and recouple the steering shaft and reinstall the starter. On the passenger side the headers actually make it a little easier since I can get a wrench on the upper starter bolt instead of using a ratchet and 24" of extensions and a universal.

Other than that it was bolt them in, get some O2 sensor extenstions and it was good to go.

My car is stock ride height but I can't really see the headers hanging down real low when I look at the car.

Well here is a better angle from the side and as you can tell the exhaust does not hang low at all. My headers might not even be the lowest thing under the car. I have never measured but also haven't had an issue yet.

I had MAC 1-3/4's on my 5.0. It was slammed over coil overs and would catch speed bumps if I wasnt careful. I also had to cut the brackets on my steering knuckle for it to clear. They also hit my k-member so I had to make clearance for that as well.

And you have the BBK 1 5/8 LT headers correct? lol i really like your car. Guess i didn't know that was yours. From the pic in your sig, i just always thought you had a bone stock white '80's GT lol.

Okay thanks alot. I think i'm gonna buy the LT's then. The BBk's seem like a nice product from what you guys have said.

Yes that is mine, and it was a stock white LX not too long ago...

I have Mac 1 5/8" LTs. The BBKs on my friends car seem to sit a bit lower than mine.

I have BBKs and they definitley sit lower than 25th's. Not by much but every little bit matters. Overall I'm happy with the quality. Check out pic "2" in my sig. Granted, that picture was taken at a very low angle. Generally I don't have a problem with scraping but I have to really take my time clearing parking lot speed bumps.

I found a pic on ebay.... This guy is running BBK LT's with C- Springs. How low do C springs drop a car? I have the Eibach Pro-Kit which drops my car 1.2 up front and 1 in the rear.....

That doesn't hang down much lower then stock does it? Theres what.... 3 or 4 inches of ground clearance there? I have my car all riped apart and i can't remember how low the shorties with x pipe hung down....

well idk that looks pretty low. But it looks high enough to where you wouldn't have much clearance issues. Atleast by the looks of it....

That's decent clearance. You'd just have to be that much more mindful of where you're driving. Looks like he's got a few scrapes, as do I.

After reading.... my plan to go to LT's has been extinguished.. Im going to go with equal length shorties and some SLP LM1's and flowmaster tails..

Do yourself a favor and keep your shorti's...the LT's are not worth the trouble for the gains you will see...unless you are making huge power. JMO. Nothing but problems to worry about with LT's. Mine were on for about 5 minutes then I took them off for all the reasons stated above.....hitting the steering shaft, burning up clutch cable, heat soaking the starter, etc....... They suck. By the way they are for sale..PM if interested....I'll give you a great price.

You don't have to remove the headers to pull the bell housing. You only have to loosen up the driver side header from the head by running the header bolts out about a 1/4". I ran MAC 1-5/8 on my 302 and now I run BBK 1-3/4 on my 418 and that's all I had to do.

I am glad I live with the steering shaft problem, have never had any of the other issues, and my car gained a ton at the track and SOTP with my long tubes. I did them when I was 17-18 just for the sound, and it made a world of difference. And go figure the sound down low and cruising seems to be quieter with LTs, but up top they scream compared to shorties.

Ive got BBK LT's and i have no problems with scraping the headers, or starter heat soak or getting the starter or transmission out (the T56 is bigger than the T5)...nor does the steering shaft hit. My car sits very low too, the most you have to worryy about is the mufflers hitting something
