Im sure this has been discussed before but I couldnt locate the thread. Whats the best longtubes for an 87 fox as far as installation without having to loosen motor mounts, etc? Looking at some BBKs and Macs I noticed the Macs have separated flanges whereas the BBK is solid. Even for me putting on my shorties was a PITA because my wrench was rubbing the side of the headers and I couldnt get a good bite on the bolts lol

Shorties are shot and would like to go longtube

Was told by someone that the separate flanges make it easier to get a good seal on the port but Im not sure of the validity of that

Thanks

BBK from what I have seen has the smoothest installation. some companies have issues rubbing against steering columns, bellhousings, and what not. I have not seen or heard this with BBK. I have a set at the house, but I have not put them on yet. when the new motor goes in this winter we'll see how easy they go in.

ok thanks for the help

I have the BBK LT's and they were pretty straight forward to install. Originally we tried to do it without removing the steering shaft or undoing the motor mounts. About 15 minutes into that we just said screw it...jacked up the motor and took the shaft out...after that they went it really easy!

I threw mine in with just the motor jacked up a bit.

They will rust on you even if you don't drive the car and it sits in the garage. My friends 800 dollar set of Bassini LT's are rusting on him as well and his car is in a bubble.

Some needs to make SS LT's... Maybe Kooks. I know Hooker is better for HP than BBK.

you want the solid flange. its a much better design. good luck getting individual flanges to line up again if you have to reinstall in the future after all that heat.
can't go wrong with bbk's for the price. i've heard mac is garbage. the bbks went in nice on my car. had to jack the engine a bit, other than that, no major issues. i regret getting the chrome, but i didnt have the cash for ceramic. the chrome turned blue in some spots the first day, and any oil or anything burns on stays and looks bad

Although I don't have longtubes I have ran bbk shorties with one flange and mac with the individual flanges. No problems with the bbk taking them off and on again and again. They would seal up fine, but the individual flanges on the mac, I constantly have to retighten header bolts and I don't think they ever have sealed completely.

+1 on the single flange

I have BBK LTs on my 88. I just disconnected the steering shaft at the rag joint and dropped the starter out of it. Bolted the headers in and then reconnected the steering and put the starter back in.

Individual flanges SUCK. I dunno how many occasions I've heard of people having to have a buddy help pry on the stupid things with a bar or something while the other tries to get the bolt in there ... and then the things start leaking later on, meaning you've got to repeat that annoying process all over again.

On a side note ... do you really NEED LT's? They're a PITA to install versus shorties, obviously (aside from equal-lengths ... ugh, those blow), and they seem to cause more problems (like starter heat soak, and ground clearance) than they're usually worth. The difference in power is pretty minimal against shorties, and they actually quiet your exhaust down significantly. Just maybe something to consider...

Well dont really *need* them per se lol but I figured since I was going to be replacing anyway it was an idea I was pondering...plus I was given a LT HPipe about 6 months ago collecting dust

Thanks again for the input

Here i got a pic for you. Here are Bassani long tube headers. 1 3/4 stepped to 1 7/8 with a 3 inch collector. Keep in mind this is on a Eibach Pro kit street car. Lets just say he sold these cause he couldn't use them on the street......

If you don't need them and its a street car, do not run them period.

Nice coating you have there:rlaugh: . Sorry, thanks for the picture.
I do have problems even with shorties, and bbk x-pipe, not to hit on the wall of my garage with a minor lowering. Now i can see that L/T wont be worth the hp for me with that ground clearance.
