We're having the annual Wings over Houston airshow on the 21st and 22nd of this month..They do the "Tora Tora Tora" recreation..All the WWII planes fly up from galveston..Its awsome. I'm still a much bigger fan of the F-15 however

I try to go the Houston air show every year. I love watching the older aircraft, but there's nothing like a P-51 doing a high speed flyby. Open headers on a Merlin V12 is incredible.

But I would have to say my favorite military aircraft would be the A-10. Built like a tank, ugly as sin, and armed to the teeth. Coolest gun evar.

We have bases all around us. A-10s at Bradly they always fly over. F-15s now based at Westfield and C5s based at Westover. They are all about 10 miles away from where I live. Some pics I took at this years airshow at westfield.

C5 are amazingly agile plains. In Iraq I my "office" was right next to the Baghdad International Airport and we use to see them taking off and landing. They did some amazing stunts as well as the C-130's. We didn't see really any fighters though.

+1 for the A-10. I +1 for the Harrier jet too just because of vertical takeoffs and landings.

You guys ever see the size of the turret in the nose of the A10? It's bigger than a VW Bug hahaha... and its the only plane that was built around the gun

I'm in SA. might be worth the drive over to H-town. T-birds and Sean Tucker are going to be there arent they? i used to love seeing Sean Tucker fly back when he was still flying the 1-800-Collect plane. hes an amazing pilot.

Sweet pics. I was at VA beach a few years ago and a P40 Warhawk (I think) flew fight over the beach. It was awesome! Really loud too, I want to fly in one of those some day.

H didn't know we had this many WWII buffs in here.

In Hakodate Japan Back in 07/29/95, Zero fighter Frame #61-120(captured in 07/12/44. when airbase which 261st Japanese Naval Air Corps fall in to allied hand. Only one left in the world that fly with original Sakae engin) and P-51D Mustang belongs to Plane of fame in Chino CA did exbitonal air combat. I guess they were told to do their best to shoot eachother down with gun with some sort of optical device, and rigged with smoke generater(to go off when one is resumebly hit by others.

I remenber i begged my dad to pay for the sir fair, because i wanted to go soooooooo bad.

OH from what i was told, P51 shot down zero 3 times, and zero shot down P51 twice...

This is not the original Fuddy Duddy, which was lost on December 30, 1944 after a mid-air collision with another B-17 over Mannheim Germany.

It went down with the other flight crew but they rebuilt this one and they dedicated it as the Fuddy Duddy. We all went to Geneseo NY for its first flight and got to go on board, then watched the 2nd crew (which my grandfather was in) that were still alive go for a reflight. Was an emitional day and my grandfather never smiled and cried so much in his life. I can't remember how many but there were a handful of his crew still around and it was very exciting to see. This is going back around 15+ years.

Never saw combat though in WW2. War ended just as production was ramping up.

If you research the history of the Mustang after the war, it's led a colorful life. It was renamed the F-51 in 1947 and saw brief battle in the beginning of the Korean war until Jets took over. After that, third world countried began buying them up along with a company called "Trans Florida Aviation Cavalier" began buying surplus Mustangs and converting them to executive luxury planes with 2 seats and plenty of leather and "modern" instruments.

The last exported Mustang was sent out in 1973, the last Mustang used by a Military was decommissioned in 1984 (Dominican Republic). Most were scooped up by collectors to be restored to WW2 specs and even partially restored versions go for $1mil+

Piper modified a P-51 in 1971 and tried to sell it to the US military. Called the Enforcer, you can clearly see it's P-51 roots. There were 4 built, 2 as late as 82-84

If i won the lottoe for $300million or so, i would definitely try to pick up a P-51. I love those planes. For now i'll stick to building up a R/C P-51 and flying that around

Man is that big azz potato shooter exhaust on those? Were they modified by HKS?
