i finally got the money to put a large power upgrade into my car. And i was originally thinking of getting a NOS nitious kit but im afraid of blowing my motor. i herd crane cams are a good choice. I got about 800 bucks to spend, what do you guys think is the best chice for my setup?

oh i dont plan to turn my car into an all out drag queen, i just want to up the power.

Depends
Cams more average power more of the time. but don't forget you'll need a new tune
Nitrous LOTS more power but only when bottle full usually when you know your gonna race. Tune Highly advised.

heck with it do both.

You will barely even get the parts you need to do cams for $800 and labor is a lot for cams.

IMHO these two mods are not even in the same league. Nitrous is cheap and easy to install. Cams are super expensive and extremely difficult to install.

with $800 to spend cams will be hard.

cams $500 minum
springs $180
tune $350-400

so by my math that puts you at $1030 doing the job yourself.

now NOS on the other hand if used in moderation in a wet kit most likely will not need a tune more of buy a bit of dyno time to verify you are not leaning out. this will save you about $250-$300.

so short story long if you run say 75hp of spray you should be able to get to you $800 budget where cams will be well over your budget and net you about 25hp.

not that I am a NOS kind of guy I like my power there all the time but there cost to hp ratio on cams vs NOS is just not the same at all.

If you're on an $800 budget, then go with the N2O and a tune.. get 1 tune for N/A and 1 tune for N2O, that way you can run at your best while you're not spraying or run the best settings for n2o when you are spraying

But, i'd just save more money if you can and go with the cams. I paid $845 for cams/valvesprings and will be paying $400 for tuner and then $200 for tune.. So that's a good chunk of change not including install. I'm only paying $200 for install, but most places charge $700-1000 for install

Not counting the cams, the install and tune was $1132 and change...not cheap if you cant do it yourself but worth the money

7-800 bucks to install cams would make me want to do it myself. Specially if you were using the stock springs and whatnot, like on smaller cams.

If you get some NAAAWZ dont forget the big sticker to slap on the windshield... lol.

I would personally get some Comp Cams for $499 shipped. install them and then get a tune for around $350 or so and thats close to $850

I'd opt for cams too. If you don't want to do-it-yourself save a little more for the install. Find a shop that speciallizes in 4.6's. If you do it yourself read over how to do the swap. Not too difficult really if you take your time. A tune is a must either way...I gained 5 tenths with a tune after my cam swap.

Nitrous would require a tune also...plus, if you do it right, you would need a step colder plugs with nitrous to avoid detonation. That will sap some of your NA power when you aren't spraying.

Yes, a tune is highly recommended..but with TR-6 plugs gapped at .035 for nitrous, I lost nothing running N/A. You can spend a lot more money on cams and still get raped by every power-adder Mustang out there. A power-adder is the only way to compete, and there are more of them on the streets every day.

Cams are nice as you never have to worry about refilling a bottle. The down side to cams is your fuel mileage will suffer and you won't have as much hp as what the Nitrous will give you.

I get better than stock with my cammed/full bolton GT .

Just depends on what you want I guess...I cant say 1 way more than another I guess because its all about what the person wants. Obviously I went with cams lol....wish I would have known that I was going to buy tubos though so I could have bought blower cams. But anyways cams make a BIG difference...lots of power. Definatly worth it.
