Looking for electric fan...

I want to get rid of my stock fan and want to go with an electric one since I am getting robbed a few HP with my current one. What should I go with and whats a good site/place to get it from? I am looking for a new one or fairly new one that is in great condition, have any ideas paste them here!

You won't hear people complain about Lincoln MkViii, SN95, Taurus 3.8L fans, the dual 11" SPAL fully shrouded units. As mentioned above, if you want to take full advantage of the benefit of the electric - control it with a DC Control unit; you can get the fan through them too.

sorry to jump in here.

i tried the proform electric fan a couple weeks ago with roughly 280 crank hp and it wasnt cooling as well as my stock fan. normally i run at 165 on a 60 degree day with no heat on driving normal for example. with the proform it was at 180 driving normal in 45 degree weather, with the heat on.

im looking for something that can provide sufficient cooling for roughly 500 hp now, is a better option besides the fans dc sells? im thinking a dual fan setup, where is the best place to look into those?

$340 seems like quite abit for one of their fans, but maybe im way off base?

If you want to get serious about moving enough air across the rad to keep high output motors cool, it takes a lot of quality fan. As for the cost - think of what overheating that 500HP mill will cost you. Don't try to skimp on the cost of the fan.

AND - shop around; most score the Ford fans from the junk yard at relatively low cost - but, of course, they're used.

Oh - only you can decide what the best value is for you, but the price you mentioned includes the "big" fan and the control system all mounted and ready to install....

thanks for the information.

yeah i definately dont want to halfass my cooling, i was moreless curious of the best cooling options. $340 is quite abit still compared to what i was looking at before, like the proform fan was 120 shipped i think.

ill send you an email about the fans, that looks like what i was going for with the two fan setup also.

i as going with the summit s-blade fan i think it is 85 bucks. It moves over 2000 cfm. Just a power wire on a a toggle switch.

yeah, thats what the specs/install of the proform was like. it was a really well designed fan, but it had hp support numbers which i was over. couldnt expect too much from a 90 dollar fan though.

btw, im building a similar combo to you with the 306 and edelbrock intake, what heads are you running? how do you like it?

in a couple months im going to run some boost too.

I have a ramchargers fan on mine and it works great. It is a dual fan with a high and low speed.

I have the 3.8L Ford Taurus fan that I had in my 88GT and it worked great. I took it out to put in my car now. They work great, it worked on my friends 89 GT with a Vortech Supercharger and kept it nice and cool. I will sell you mine for 40 bucks, and I will give you the maxi fuse and wiring. You would just have to buy the relay at autozone or something.... their like 5 bucks. Easy to install, did it in 2 hours and I could feel a little difference. Also they are good on track days.

my take on fans. if one is going to spend a couple hundred (or more) on the setup, i would:
not get a new fan. get a J/Y fan (any mentioned - SN, 3.8 taurus, cougar, Mark 8, et al). for cheap at the J/Y. then spend the rest of the money on a Dc Controller. the controller will make the fan be much more efficient than old school switches and relays. let alone, from what Michael has said, one can get by with less alternator output with this controller (since it is variable). one still should have a 3G type upgrade, but 130 amps is not necessarily needed, depending upon other system draws and mods (stereo, etc).

my two cents. good luck.

BTW, i dont have any of this stuff - but i know what i would do if i were to.

i am really liking DC Control's 18' kit with everything integrated. just VERY simple wire up if you look at it. the flow numbers seems very good to. i am running a novi blown 347 right now but still have my stock fan/clutch assemble with a fluidyne radiator. my question is, would their 18' kit be enough for my current setup or should i look into their control unit with another type like spal or something. any opinions from ANY of you guys would be greatly appreciated. i live in AZ were cooling is a major issue. thanks again!

i don't know why everyone knocks the proform fan.i've had mine for a year and a half and it performs flawlessly.theres not a product on the market that somebody's not going to have a had a bad experience with.no the proform isn't going to cool a 500hp motor,it's not meant to.it will cool the average 300 or so hp stangs.it all depends on application.
