I’m getting the parts for my next Fox 5 lug conversion. I did a 5 lug conversion on my 1990 7 up but it has been sold. A couple of weeks ago I picked up 2 axles from the auto wreckers. One from a 1995 Aerostar and the other from a 1987 Ranger. I’d like to get some Ford 9 inch drums but so far no luck. If you know which vehicles commonly used the 9 inch drum, please let me know.

Thanks.

1987 ford ranger 4 cylinders had 9 inch drums that will fit the 5 lug swapped mustang. I used them on a couple of my early swapped mustangs.

Just wondering, do you need to change the backing plates?

No need to change the backing plates, I've used the same Ford ranger 9" drums without issue as well

I've used them too. Just make sure you spec the 4 cyl ranger. The v6 models come with 10" drums.

Found a pair of 9 inch drums today, the cooling fins are larger than the 1987's. I didn't expect to find them on a v6 but they came off a 1989 Ranger with a v6. If Ford is temporarily out of rear ends with 10 inch drums, they must use whatever's available to keep the assembly line rolling.
