I recently installed Flowmaster Super 40's on my 02 GT automatic. There is a noticable difference at start up and at 2000 rpm. At idle and when rpm's drops off in higher gears it sounds not much different than the stock mufflers. The car is completly stock except for the 40's but, is there anything I can do to incerase the sound w/ the mufflers I have? I would like to be heard alot more than just above stock.

Any help greatly appreciated!

you should'nt have done just mufflers. if your going to spend the money to get exhaust, do it right., you'll be very happy that you did. the volume of the sound comes from the midpipe (H or X-pipe), the mufflers just define the tone. and dont have all that welded to your stock pipes! get the full catback system from flowmaster....but dont forget you also need the midpipe thats where all your sound comes from!:nono:

thats true about the midpipe being important to how the exhaust sounds, but the weld in Flowmasters will be ok. You dont have to get the catback. Get an h pipe if you want a deep musclecar tone, or get an x pipe if you want a slightly higher pitched, raspier, nascar type of tone. and if you want it really loud, agressive & raspy get a catless or off road x or h pipe.

I have the weld-in Flow 40s and the OR H Prochamber and it sounds perfect.....might get a catback when im done with all my other mods but for now it sounds just fine..

O/R H Prochamber FTW!!

Another vote for either the MRT catted H or O/R H if you don't have to worry about passing emissions. Also give a little time to break in. My catback definately got louder after a bit of "burn-in" time.

Pro chamber makes the most power, but has a unique sound. Off road H will give it that MUSTANG rumble at idle, but can get obnoxiously loud if you like to put the pedal to the metal, the off road X will sound raspy and higher pitch than the H. I have had all 3......prochamber was the best but the most expensive, the H is what I run now I like it alot, but is loud at highway speeds. I installed a 12" solobaric to muffle the sound :) Good luck!

I run a offroad H and its loud. Thought it wuz cool but when I visit my cousin I drive 300+ miles at 75-80 MPH with 4.10 gears. That kinda gets old listening to LOUD Flowmaster drone for 5 hours. Its kinda cool in town but on the freeway I have to have stereo blasting.

Thank for the help!

Thanks for the help! I do prefer the deep musclecar tone more than the NASCAR sound. I guess I should lean more towards he H pipe. I'm sure the sound will change for the better as time goes on and the mufflers burn in a little more also. Everyone talks about the Pro Chamber this may sound crazy but what exactly is it and what does it do. Would it be simular to the catalitic converter?

The Prochamber is made by Mac, and its a compromise of an X and H pipe.

Its basically a box (which is the H part), and it has two inlets running from the exhaust manifolds and angle in when they enter the box (which is the X part) and they crossover the gasses that way and exit through the other side.

Hope that made sense... They definatly sound good, power gains are nice across the board also. Generally H pipes keep low end, X pipes give up top.

I had an H pipe on my 5.0 ... I have an X on my Mach1....i think the X sounds deeper and more throaty...same flowmaster catbacks too..the H pipe on the FoxBody sounded more like a chopper and it was kind of sloppy..the X pipe is definately raspier...but the tone itself is very deep

Yeah, but you're comparing apples and oranges. The native exhaust tone of the two motors are quite different. I have a OR H on my car with Flowmaster 40s and it's very deep and throaty. Classic big block muscle sound, I guess. Loud as heck too.
It's not that x-pipes sound higher pitched --more that at higher revs, they have a raspier tone and have a "scream" that H-pipes don't have. Most people compare them to a NASCAR racer sound. And that's not a bad thing -- just depends what you're looking for.

i know u guys might think this is baised.. but.. MAC catback or flows with an Off road prochamber makes one of the nicest sounds ever coming from a mustang's tailpipes. (and i have an O/R Prochamber for sale, used for 8 months, great shape) shhhhhhh.. i didnt just say that
