Hey guys/gals,

I usually post in the 4.6 section (2003 gt) but I am on the hunt this winter. I would like to buy my first fox. I was hoping to get some insight on any special years to buy, or things to be on the look out for? I want to keep it N/A with a little spary, and have it fun for the weekend with the wife. I noticed that most seem to be 4 lug wheels, any fox's come with 5 or are they usually conversions? Any type advice suggestions are welcome Thanks

An all around good year to get is an 89. They have tilt wheel, MAF, and forged slugs. The 92+ 5.0's got hypereutectic pistons. The airbags came out in 1990 and away went the tilt wheel. 1991-1993 V8 cars got the 16" ponies. As far as 5 lug from the factory, the only ones I know are the SVO and the 93 Cobra. Are you looking for a 4 eye or 87-93?

+1. 89 is the transition year to mass air and was the last year of the tilt wheel, so it's a good year to have. 87-88's were factory speed density and are arguably a tad quicker, stock vs. stock. not as modification friendly as mass air though, but can definitely be done. 93's were actually the only year that came with hypereutectic pistons, 92's had forged still. all 5 lug fox's you see have been converted from 4 lug, save for the svo's and 93 R's like coast2coastang said.

Ok, cool, thanks guys. I've be searching and I agree about the years, I would like something 89+. I found some 93 cobra's for fun and WHOA the price. I would even go for a 94-95 too, but looks like I'm going to spend 3500-5000 for a fox with great interior and some motor mods, is this what yall see as far as price goes? I've seen some cheaper but always seem to be beat up, but in the car's defense, it is 20 years old. How much work is involved in taking a 88 and below model year and carb'ing it?

Thanks again for the help.

Converting an EFI Fox to carb is probably more work and money than its worth, especially if you have a healthy V8 car to start with. The only time I'd consider it is if the car is a 4 cyl conversion, because in that case you have to change most of those components anyway. An 86-93 EFI system is almost too good/easy/cheap to toss in favor of a carb. Even the SD cars can be converted to MAF for less than 200$ if you know where to look. Hell, the EFI parts are so cheap to buy and easy to tune these days I'm tempted to say its easier and cheaper than carb, but that's sure to spark some controversy.

i like the interior of the 94/95 cars more but they are heavier an you can get more parts for the 87-93 car. the 94/95's are the only sn95 with the 5.0 so parts are more expensive.

Coming from having nothing but SN95's & getting my 1st fox about six months ago, I will tell you it feels totally different than 94-04 stangs... Nothing like a good ol' fox, thats 4 sure. I have had a 95 GT & although it was a 5.0, & they are sweet cars, it still felt too much like I was driving my 03, so I traded it for my 91 Notch... 89 would be a good year to get, but any 89-93 would be good IMO...

Good Luck!!!
