Looking for opinions...

Hey everyone,
I am in the market to buy a new shortblock from someone and have a few question's. First off...Any recommendation's on the company? I have been looking at either DSS or X2C Motorsports, and haven't heard too much about either one. Secondly...I am looking for about 400rwhp N/A or so and was planning on 10 or 10.5 to 1 comp ratio, X-303 cam, AFR185's, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake and a 750cfm Holley carb. (Car is already Carb'ed) does this sound possible? I know with these numbers a stock block should be ok but in the future I would like to consider a 150 or 200 shot of nitrous. Would a Sportsman's block be ok or should I just jump to a R302? Price is an issue but I would rather pay a little more now for a motor that I won't grenade. Thanks in advance for any advice, I am kinda new to the ford thing. (Whole family is Chevy...lol) Oh yeah....cast or forged crank? (I am thinking forged but I see some people saying that a cast can handle 650hp)

Thanks again,
Aaron

DSS has a great reputation for building quality motors as does X2C Motorsports.

X2C has done ALL of the mods to my car and they've always treated me right. When it comes time for me to get forged internals I'll have X2C put together a combo for me.

Good luck!

For 400hp n/a the sportsman block is fine, 600+ with the spray would be ok if everything (tune ect) was in check. The "R" block would be awesome if in you're budget. Keith Craft, Fox lake, kuntz and co, livernois (sp) motorsports, all have good reps too. Good luck.
