hi all, i'm new to this forum and looking for the right mustang. i have several requirements:
1. convertible
2. 1960s production
3. manual
4. preferably will have larger V8 than 289
5. not white

i also need to test drive one because i've never driven any mustang before, never mind a 60s model. unfortuneately i haven't been able to find any for sale in the boston area (even within 150 miles!) so i don't know how i'll test drive it. any suggestions on options/years to go for or stay away from will be appreciated! thanks!

I would suggest you start by looking at classified ads. Your chances of finding a car for sale in "for sale" ads is better than in a tech forum. Im sure you will have no problem finding a convertible with a 351 or something to that nature. Good Luck!

i've been looking all over the internet for mustangs and managed to find one in rhode island. other than that, they mostly seem to be in the southern US. there are a couple in NJ, one in NY, but that's all i found, and i'm not going 200+ miles just to test drive the car unless i already know what they drive like. right now i just want to drive one to see how i like it, but i'm having an impossible time finding one for sale in my area! hopefully the person in RI will get back to me about test driving their car. i'm 6'4 270 pounds so i'm concerned about fitting into the car too, so it's key for me to see whether i can even fit comfortably into the car!

well when my dad sat i ny stang for the first time (67 coupe) (he had a 67 coupe back in 78) he said "well.. i think she shrunk a little.." he was 6'0 290 pounds then.. he was a little tight to the wheel, but it was driveable. i'm not sure how big you are width wise but mustangs generaly are a tight fit if your big and you use the center concole, but i think you will fit.

i think you should drive AN older stang first though, u may not like the feel of it. also, if you drive a FWD car then you will need to adjust to a RWD... personly i like RWD much better.

i spent about 5 months looking for the exact car i wanted. '68 Fastback, Acapulco Blue, 289 or better, all original. it needs work but it runs and is gonna be a relatively "easy" restomod.
just take time and be careful about what you find. you very well might have to drive a good distance to get what you want, but it sure will be worth it.
