Looking into Buying new Tires

I currently have 215/60's on my 15" 10 holes. I was thinking about going to 205/60's to be just a little less sidewall and same tread width.

I don't really want to buy a tire that I have to order. So I am looking at like the Goodyear Eagle GTH.

Any words of wisdom from fellow stangnetters?

The 205/60s will be narrower that your 215/60s. If you want to reduces yoru side wall, try a set of 215/50 or 55s. Just keep in mind that whenever you change the overall height of the tire that you're also going to see variance in your speedometer.


215/60/15

215 = the tire cross section (width)
60 = the height of the sidewall as a percentage of the cross section (60% of 215)
15 = of course, the rim size

the 205 is the width and the 60 is the sidewall, or "aspect ratio" . the '60 is actually 60% of 205. thats how all that **** works. just an fyi. so youd be wanting to get a 215/50 or 55R15 for your car. but honestly, i'd go with something like a 225/50, they'd probably look great on phone dials.

Maybe I just better stay with the 215/60's. They have a nice size tread and the sidewalls are not too big or too small. Gosh, I sound like the story of the 3 bears now.

I know this is a stupid question, but apparently 225/50's will fit on the phone dials and not have clearance issues??

Even 275's will fit in the back but you'll have to remove the quads. I vote for 255's in the back and a 225 in the front.

go 225 out back and 215 up front. its not going to cost you that much more and will give it a nice look.

Stock on my 93 was 205/65/15. I was the one that had teh 215/60's put on.

Mine is driven daily, so I don't really need any clearance issues and the speedo being off. So I am still stuck on just getting the same size 215/60's. Is the Good year Eagle GT-HR and good tire?

no your not... width wont do **** but make it look more like a stang..

i went from 14 inch wheels there were like 195/60/14 to 225/50/16(got pony wheels) and my speedo is spot on. (clocked it on the cop radar thing they put out.

If you go to the link I posted earlier, and put in the original size tire/rim and then the new tire/rim; it will tell you how much the speedometer will be off. Anytime you change the diameter of the wheel, it is goint to affect the speedometer due to revolutions of the wheel. You may have hit the right configuration to not affect it, but do the math in the calculations and it will affect it. If I had time now I would do it and post what I found, but it will have to wait.

Ah ok. Well if stock size was 205/65/15, then you are currently running a different diameter tire on that is now throwing off your speed.

205/65/15 = 25.5" diameter STOCK SIZE

215/60/15 = 25.2" diameter

225/60/15 = 25.6" diameter Stock 5.0 tire size

235/55/15 = 25.2" diameter
235/60/15 = 26.1" diameter

245/55/15 = 25.6" diameter.

As for the tire fitting in the wells, your '93 came with the larger fenders and inner fenderwells for the 16" pony wheels. You could easily fit a 225 or 245 tire in there. The 5.0's came stock with 225/60/15's and that is the same tire diameter as your original 205/65's so that would be a good choice to run. It's also a common tire size to buy. You could also go with the 245/55's for a meaty look and the diamter will prett much be the same.

Do you know what a quad shock is? Just ask because you didn't know tire sizing?????????? Don't go smaller than 225's. I would go bigger than that myself, at least 245 on that wheel. You won' thave any issues at all.

OK OK, I get what your saying about the 205/65/15 being very close in dimensions of the 245/55/15.

So if i go 225/60, the I will have just a little wider tire then i have now with the 215/60's and if I really want a meaty wide tire, i should go with the 245/55's

If I go the 245/55;s There shouldn't be any clearance issues on the front steering since the measurements are almost identical to the stock size. And the 15 x 7 phone dials will hold the big tire no problem.

Now its time to go do some pricing. I was doing some online at wal-mart.com, but they don't carry the 245/55. I'll check into the local Goodyear dealer and maybe the Cooper Tire dealer on Friday.
