Looking into Intake Manifolds

Hey guys, I was wondering what intake manifold would benefit me the most? So far, I have a MAC CAI fenderwall, MAC Shorties, off-road h-pipe, and flowmaster mufflers, but i'm not stoppin the mods soon. (Well, the only thing stoppin me is money.) I heard good things about the GT40 and the performer intakes, but Im not sure on whats a good intake for it's price, etc. All your info would be greatly appreciated. I'm not really looking into them yet, but I wanna keep an eye out. Thanks a lot!

You could look into the typhoon intake on e-bay its pretty much a rougher casting of the preformer so if you want to save money and don't mind doing some clean up of the runners it might be the way to go. They go for around 290 satin or 390 polished. They would be an overkill on stock heads and you would lose some low end. If you plan on heads in the future you might want to save up and do the intake and heads at the same time so you only take it apart once.

Think about gears if you don't already have some

You can get Trick Flow Street Heat upper and lower at pacificaperformance.com for $340, but you won't get the full potential out of it with stock heads, but you will be able to tell a difference.

The runners on the TFS intakes are just too big for stock heads, I would be afraid to loose velosity, but if you get heads soon, it might not be a bad choice.

The GT40 is too pricy IMO. It's flow charcteristics are about the same as the Cobra and Explorer (same lower BTW) but with a tubular upper. Not saying it's a bad intake, but pricy and limited.

I bought the Edelbrock Performer because:

1. Expandability:
- back of upper is removable for easy porting/cleaning.
- can upgrade to RPM upper with same lower.
- has plenty of meat to grind on for porting.
2. Flow
- 210cfm, more than cobra, gt40, explorer.
- even flow numbers, 5% between runners.
3. Made in USA
- no Chineese knockoffs on my car.
4. Reviews section
-seemed to read the best for long runner intakes with smaller runners.

Also consider this, the TMOSS ported lower, or systemax I lower. The upper flows well, it's the lower that chokes you off. (130cfm per runner) Alot cheaper and the sleeper factor is killer.

anyone read the article in mm&ff? picked up 90 horse with a bigger intake tb and maf!!! sounds like a big diff?!?!

I was told this by someone who read this article!! I did not read it myself! If Im leaving out anything important, let me know!

Performer flows about 220 cfm and the GT40/Cobra/Explorer flow about 205-210cfm. Either the Performer or the GT40 family will work well but are begging for more head. For about $130 including shipping you can port your lower now and then upgrade heads and intake later. My lowers are selling for close to what they cost on the boards and ebay. Paste the link in my signature for more info. It's all about the budget and how soon you'll be upgrading.

Money

Well I would love to buy some new heads soon or even in the next few months, but I'm in college, and still trying to save money for other necessities. Heads to me seem too pricey of a mod right now, but in the future definietly. It would probably be smart to do it all at once, cuz whether I buy the intake or heads first, I'd still be getting robbed of HP till I got both on at the same time, correct? Thanks for youre input everyone!

same problem here man, bought a cobra intake and 1.7 rockers not too long ago and put them on. i really like the power that it gave me but im disappointed because now im saving up for some thumper heads and a cam and i have to rip it all apart now. college sucks because in college towns there are no jobs to get.
