hey everyone here is my situation: I am an 18 year old college student looking for a car to drive. I was looking around at the 2000's GT's and then a 98 cobra caught my eye. It was the same price if not cheaper than most of the GT's. My only problem is insurance. I went to Geico and it said that the insurance would be the same for both of those cars. Any advice on what to do would be much appreciated.

I know its sounds rather simplistic, but you just need to shop around for the best deal.
If there is anyway to get it in a parent's name as the primary driver, that will save you, especially with a multi-car family discount. Also, if either they or you (if you're the primary driver) can list it as a recreational or pleasure vehicle, the insurance will be cheaper. However, if used as daily driver, you probably will not be able to use this. Furthermore, the deductible will make a difference.
Seriously though, shopping around can get you some dramatic differences. My Ram Sport Quad Cab with a Hemi was going to cost me nearly what my 01 Cobra was going to run. I went with another insurance company and it was almost half of what my insurance company on the Mustang was going to charge me. Ironically, when I called for a quote to switch my Cobra, the insurance was higher with the company my truck was now insured with so I stuck with the old one.

if its the same price for insurence I would go for the cobra. Its a great car depending on the miles, and its faster. the gt has 260 hp, the cobra has 305 hp, and the cobra is a little lighter i believe.

there are suspension mods and some engine bolt ons.. racing seats, 5 points, and a roll bar

the interior is stripped but i can put it back in if you'd like. i'd have to remove the roll bar and re-relocate the battery. the racing seats (corbeau) have to stay in the car, because they are the only ones i have. i do have a reclinable corbeau in my other car i could swap into either driver or passenger side if you like, but it is gray/black and the rest of the interior is just black.

just let me know if you wanna come check it out sometime.. i'd really like to get rid of it soon.

i also have a lot of extra stuff, like extra wheels, control arms (front and rear), track pads, brake calipers, maf, etc.)

i would definatly consider it...however my parents wouldnt really think to highly of it because my dad really wants something that is pretty much stock just because that way no one has messed with it that he doesnt know what has been done.

Get the Cobra, that thing looks so clean, and it will respond nicely to bolt ons. It also has super low miles. I am at UNC, but I don't ahve my snake up here, Where are you really from? Raleigh? Look up my boys at State, John Peaden, Perry Little, Stephen V. We have a website for our car club you may want to join, we always love new local guys. www.clubbadass.com

the best way would be to call your insurance company and ask them. they can give you an exact quote on what it would cost.

Do what i do for the insurence situation, put one of your parents as the MAIN driver for the cobra, and have you under the least expensive car for your main transportation. That way if your in the cobra and something does happen you will still be covered becasue you are in their insurence plan. Im 17 and my parents were really cool about it, but i still pay about 2200 for the cheapest car. I hate insurence company's becasue thats alot of mods that I could put into my snake.

man i cant believe insurance is killin so many purchases! Are the rates really that bad? Im 31, I havent paid attention to my rate in a LONG time, i have no idea how much it is, I feel bad for you guys that are Xed out of getting the rides you want because insurance sucks....how many places did you shop around? hit them all, my experiences w geico (insuring a jet ski) proves them to be pricey, I am with allstate for a long time now, no problems, id suppose fair pricing, i never complain LOL...I think state farm was another decently priced place, I had troubles with insuring an 02 R1, the difference between the bike insurance and car insurance is night and day..anyways, I hope you can work it out...(cobra, btw)
