Looks At This Car On Craigslist

I bought my 1990 GT a couple of years ago for $9,500 with 120,000 kilometers in Canada so roughly $7,500 with 75,000 miles US. I agree that they are getting hard to find in good to great stock condition and this really seems to be driving the cost up, at least here. I'm sure it varies from region to region, but I don't think the numbers are too far off.

Being stock and in great shape is what convinced me to pull the trigger. I had been looking for a couple years and there is just nothing available anymore. There were/are 1987-1993 foxbodies here for half or less than what I paid, but they were high mileage, rusty in most cases almost all had terrible re-wiring jobs done and a bunch of other aftermarket stuff. I wanted it for a daily driver so being all original and in great shape was well worth the extra money.

Thanks! Only mods to it when I bought it was some timing work, aftermarket exhaust (nothing crazy, just one of the more quiet flowmaster cat-back systems), and a K&N filter. That was as close to stock as I have seen in a very long time so I took it. If nothing else, a clean original car gives me the opportunity to make changes that I want and make sure they are done right.

That’s how mine was when I bought it. 88gt, 109k, all stock. Except to P.O. put on the pony’s, wish I still had the turbines. I used to have a set, sold em cheap a long time ago for almost nothing.

That is funny about the turbines - that is something I want to change but so many people are saying they like them and I should keep them. I like black rims but I am not sure if I will like that with the two-tone paint. I actually have that peelable plastidip paint that I was going to try. I figure it is a cheap way to see black rims on the car and if I don't like it just peel it off.

Is that your 88 GT in your picture? Looks nice and clean as well.

Yeah, I don't know why that is, even the insurance papers say Cobra but it really isn't. Someone had told me that it was an issue with Shelby and Ford fighting over the rights to the name at the time, but that doesn't make sense why Canada would be able to use the name on not the US. Meh, just a sticker.

It is, not as nice as your though. Don’t paint those turbines with plasti dip. You’ll never get all that stuff off of em. There impossible to clean just brake dust off!! Trust me!

I know, that is one of the worst parts about trying to keep the car clean is getting in all the sections of the rims, lol. I have heard such mixed opinions about the plastidip stuff. Some say as long as you put it on thick enough it comes off easy, others say it doesn't matter and it makes a mess out of everything.

If you do it right it’ll come off, but that’s if you put it on flat, more uniform surfaces. I think it would be a nightmare to get it off a set of turbines. I wouldn’t even try it.

LMR has wheel and tire packages that are fairly cheap and you could finance em.

That is actually exactly where I was planing to get them if I could ever make up my mind, lol. For me, getting the tires installed on rims, balanced and sent to your door for what looked like between $1000-1500 beats anything I could get locally. Especially being that they are designed to specifically fit your make and model.

Not to derail the thread, but did Canadian “Cobras” come with the rear louvers like yours? Nice car!

I am not too sure about that. It may have been an option, but most I see don't have them. I am actually looking for another one because mine is faded and some of it seems loose and it rattles around a bit. I can always take it off and have it repaired and repainted, but I plan to have the whole car re-painted at some point so I am holding of on that type of work for now.

They seem to be thick plastic where mine is thin metal, which I think looks a lot better. I just have no idea if the car came with it or where it came from.

The louvers were an accessory item from the factory or you could get them from the dealer I think, originals are metal, I want a set but kinda pricey for my junk.
The cobra thing is from europe, England if memory serves me, there was a patent or something on the mustang name so they badged them 'cobra'.
@FoxChasis may set us straight on that if he has the skinny.
