Well my new 95 gt needs some new tires. It has cobra rims on it so the tires are 255/45/17's. The rear tires are goodyear eagle gsc's i believe and the fronts are kuhmo supra 712s. The rears are pretty much bald and looks like they were over inflated (center is wore out more). The fronts are not as bad but are close to the wear bars. I want a good performance tire that is good in dry and wet conditions as i will get caught in the rain every once in awhile but i will not drive it on snow so that doesnt matter. I would prefer a decent treadlife and a reasonable price. I dont take it to the track or anything like that it is my daily driver that i like to have fun in. I have done some looking and i see that kumho ectsa mx's seem like a good tire and tirerack wants 128 a tire. There are no local kumho dealers here so i would have to get them online if i ended up with them. The bfgoodrich g fore t/a kdw's sound like a good tire from what i have read on here and the local shops do carry bfgoodrich tires so i could check prices with them, but i think they are a little higher than i want to spend. Also firestone firehawk wide ovals caught my eye for some reason. I figure most of the money that is saved buy online vs local tire shop would be spent on the shipping right? So any input is welcome. Thanks guys!

Are you sure none of your local shops can't get any Kumhos ? Unless you live in a somewhat jungle, i'm pretty sure that they can order some for for. There's always tirerack, lots of guys here order their tires from there and I've heard almost only good things about it.

Good luck.

I ordered 2 Khumo Ecsta 711's today from tirerack.com. (245/50/16)
It cost right under $150 for both shipped and with tax. I cn get tjem mounted and balanced for like $30 at a place by where I work. So the preice is decent. And the ecsta 711's just went down in price cause I think they are going to stop carrying them soon.

check with your local ford dealer. they have an ad claiming to have the best prices for tires. it would not hurt to call and ask.

I was going to get Firestone Firehawk wide ovals for mine, and the price I got from a local shop was a bit higher than it was at the Ford dealer. I was quite surprised. Might be worth checking out.

I am pretty sure that the local shops dont carry kumho's. One i know doesnt but i will check into it. I live in a town of 3k people so selection for things is limited . I didnt know the ford dealership carried tires. Ill have to look into it i guess. So what tire do you guys think would be a good choice? kumho mx?? firestone firehawk wide ovals? anyone running these or know anything about them?

My next set of tires will probably be Kumho MX. But I'm pretty happy with my current Ecsta Supra 712 tires. Plenty of folks swear by the more expensive brands, but I've had good luck so far with Kumho (also have a set of Kumho 4 season tires on my DD).

kumho 711s are the worst tire ive ever owned, they wear out quick and have very poor traction.

well i can get nitto 555 extreme tires for 137 a tire then another 70 for shipping. That will be about 618 then i got to get them mounted. Is this about as good of a deal as i am gonna get i think. These are good tires arent they? The other tires i was thinking about on tire rack were around 130 a tire so the price is almost identical. Any idea how much a shop will charge to mount them?

My '94 had those on it when I bought it. Nothing super bad about them, but nothing great either.

555s for $137/tire? sounds good. i bought cooper cobra gt(s or z, dont remember, but the best one) and they cost over $150/ tire (for 245s) with a great discount. i would rather have some 555s any day.

Right now, I have Hankook Ventus's in that size. They're quite good, but I think I'll go with some Nitto 555's when these eventually wear out. Might be a while though. I have no complaints about ordering from Discount Tire Direct, and they have Nittos.

i've had kuhmo and hated them. the last two sets of tires have been BF Goodwrich and i'm very happy with them. i got them mounted and balanced for right at $150 a tire for 275/40/17 g-force KDWs

What do you guys think of there free replacement deal?? 76 dollars for 4 of them plus then you might have to pay to ship the tire back. that would be pretty close to the price of a replacement, plus it would be unlikely to need a replacement thats y they got patches. I have only had a single flat in my 7 yrs of driving and it was on a dirt road which my car will never see lol. There are no outlets near me so it could be a pain to get the replacement. $568 vs $644. I think i would skip the free replacement.
