Looks Like I'm gettin' tuned!!!!!

I wasn't gonna do this until I got my forged engine and blower next year, but well I decided the 3.73's just didn't add enough oomph, so I broke down and bought a brand new in the box SCT 2 Tuner for $277.95 shipped on ebay. Won the auction on a last second auction snipe (someone's pretty pissed at me right now....) for $265 + $12.95 shipping.

So looks like I'm gettin' tuned by the end of the week, and I'm gonna have to :Track: before long and see what she can do. Only had her out once back in early 2007, and I wasn't against anyone, and she did a 14.2 at 95 mph. If I'm off work Wednesday I may sneak down south and make a couple passes before I get her tuned to see what she can do so I can compare numbers.

I have a Superchipped 2003 F-250 TurboDiesel just itching to race me, and I have to admit, this truck is pretty damn quick, so this may go down this week!

Just curious, can I tune this thing myself and what settings are safe to run on my car???? or do I need to take it to someone and let them do it for me?

ok well I found out I can't tune this thing myself, so I have requested a tune and dyno appointment with Modular Powerhouse Tuning in Cartersville, GA. Gonna be a blast to take a drive down there and get the car tuned and dyno'd for the first time!!!

woot! I will be taking the camera with me for sure!

Where is Cartersville, GA and how much is he going to charge you? If you don't mind me asking? What kind of bolt ons do you have? One more thing where do you run your car?

well i don't run my car...at least not on the track. I've stayed away from that for the most part. I was quoted $370 for a dyno tune. Cartersville, GA is up northwest of Atlanta, 30-50 miles? or so.

Don't have a lot of bolt ons, Just MAC O/R H-pipe, Flowmaster 40's, 3.73's, and MAC Straight Shot.

I have a feeling you are going to be disappointed if you are expecting much out of this. You don't have many mods and the "base" tunes will be fine for you.

i've heard about 15-35 hp at the most is all I will get..., the big thing I'm really wanting in addition to the extra hp...is the a/f tuning, get it to prime settings so it will help out my fuel mileage a little bit.

I don't think he is going to be able to get you an extra 20 from what the base 93 octane tune is going to give you.

Rather than a dyno tune, you can spend ~$75 and get the car dyno'd with the a/f ratios given. Most shops will give you a few runs and you can vary the tune with the xcal a bit to see if anything improves.

minimal gains at best...even with Tim tuning. But you can upgrade later and use the tuner to grow along with the car.

Just don't eat luch at pizza Hut.

you're really not going to get that much out of a dyno tune with those mods.

I'd do what others said and save yourself some money...because you'll be very disappointed.
Just stick with the base tunes or look into a mail order tune.

I just got my sniper tune back from willie lynch at sniper (like 2 hours ago) and its great. the car runns sooooooo much smoother, and it was a nice sotp difference too. That was just with my mods.

I think it might be a dyno tune.

I beleive he is paying the $300 for the X-cal he won and then Tim is going to dyno tune it for $375.

I may have mis-interpreted that though.

Exactly--$375 + 275 = A large amount of change to spend when the $275 programmer itself will be worth it. For the dyno tune, it's not going to add much more horsepower than what a canned tune is going to do for the car. It simply doesn't have many mods for Tim to work with and squeeze out the extra power.

Spending the $275 for the programmer is a good deal and you can spend $90 for 3 custom tunes from JMS Chip & Performance if you feel that it's necessary.

well the moment of truth will come around 11 am or noon. Joe finally got done fine tuning my tune, and he's already emailed it to me...I've loaded it into the tuner so when I wake up i'm gonna go flash the car, and jet over to my mechanics and have him remove that god awful Dallas Mustangs Speed Calibrator, as Joe programmed the tune to correct for my gears and tires. then I will take her for a spin and see how she handles and if I can notice some more pep or not.

well she definitely has some more power now!! ran over to the mechanics, he took the dallas mustangs speed calibrator out, and plugged the regular speed sensor back in, then I flashed the car with my new tune, and went for a test drive to make sure the odometer was working.

it was, and so then I got on it on an on ramp to the highway, and I normally can hit 100 by the time I reach the top of the ramp, but today I hit 110 on the top of the ramp, so I got a little more oomp...shifting feels much firmer, and feels like it has a little more pick up and go, and the throttle response feels better.

now it's time to take her to the track and see how she does! most likely next friday I will do that.

Seems the shift point adjustment works wonders on an auto in an other wise stock car. Good that you are happy with it.

i have a 5 speed, but it feels much firmer than it did before the tune.

Ah...I see. What you are feeling is the torque increase. The tune will smooth out the run up throughout the RPM range. Should make a tenth or 2 better at the track.
