I still use mine for the GPS, phone charger, etc, but it's loose as hell.

Is that normal, can it be tightened, and how?

I believe you can lift the console, reach under and tighten it, but you might need to disconnect the wiring first.

There is a metal retainer on the underside of the console.

By the way, will I have to take the console up and out, and if so, is it all one piece all the way up to the stereo, or can i get away with not going up that far?

It seems like it splits at the bottom of the gearshift.

You will have to remove the shifter trim and the armrest, then you can remove the screws that hold down the center piece that the cig lighter is mounted in.

Yep, two screws under the shifter bezel, and there's side access for the armrest supports (2 bolts each side). You'll have it up and out in a few minutes max.

Once you have the console top off you will see that the lighter is 2 pieces that screw together.
