Loose shifter?

Hey guys, my shifter is really loose, like when in park u know how the bar comes down to lock it? well if u push the shifter to the left it pops out and u can move it around, currently there is no interior in the car, so its easy to work with, i put the car up on a jack and put a block on the other side so it doesn't roll back when i put it in reverse. Is there supposed to be a washer or something on the left side of the shifter? or another one on the left?

K just got that kit in... ridiculous! that website charged me 9 bucks for shipping! it was the size of an envelope! golly... How do you install the kit? cause according to a mustangs monthly article there are two ways, one that you remove the entire shifter from the floor and out of the car, the other they didn't state.
they said, "While you can accomplish the bushing replacement without removing the shifter assembly from your Mustang, our shifter was already removed during the restoration process."
anyone know this second process?

I wasn't necessarily saying use that site. All of the suppliers sell a bushing kit. Next time shop around....sometimes on the small parts one is cheaper than another when you factor handling and shipping charges. Hope the kit fixes your lose shifter too.

haha yah, I looked at one other site and it was like 20$ and i was like no... so i went with thsi then right after i ordered it i looked at mustangsplus and it was like 3 bucks and i was like noo!!! i emailed them right after to cancel it but 2 days later i get a failure to deliver notice so i said w.e..

ok actually i do have a question,
There are 4 washers, and 2 plastic bushings, I know one washer goes on the outisde of the shifter, one bushing goes in the hole between the inside and outside, another washer after that, then where does the other set go?

well, i decided to pull out the whole shifter, and I'm not sure about this kit...

Let me get this straight...

There is a long metal rod coming from the transmission, that connects to a plate with two screws in it, one welded in and the ohtehr has a washer on each side and a push in bolt. The welded one then connects to the shifter itself.... When you take it out of the floor console I am supposed to put one washer connecting the welded bolt and between the console, then regrease the bolt,... push it it, and put another washer at the other end? then connect the chrome shifter, a bushing, and then the nut?

Cause the bushings are too small to cover the welded bolt, I'lll post pics in an hour or so.

Left side connects to chrome part of shifter and goes through the floor console, right side connects to the metal rod going to the transmission.

This is a picture with a bushing
