hello, i am putting a mechanical temp gauge in the car and i lost the adapter fitting that has the tapered inside edge that the thermocouple seals against. it's the one that screws into the intake and then the thermocouple sits in that and then you tighten another fitting to hold the thermocouple against the tapered fitting tight. have i confused anybody yet. my question is, can i go to the auto store or hardware store and just pick up this fitting or is it only going to be in the gauge set. i can't take this gauge back, i got it from ebay a couple years ago. it is a mallory gauge.

If it is like an Autometer gauge then you are going to need to order the right fitting.

You might be able to find the same fitting for the line of gauges at your local parts store (in the gauge aisle).

Or hit the hot rod shops - I recently picked up an AM adapter for less at my local shop than it would have been at Summit (handling fee not withstanding). It's dumb to pay 7 bucks for a fitting, but it's all relative levels of rediculousness.

Good luck.
