i want to install a new motor in my 65 im kinda leaning towards the edelbrock performer top end kit 302 365 horsepower setup.ive seen a few roller 5.0 shortblocks fairly reasonable will this work with this setup or would it be best to rebuild the 289 block with all new parts?either way i want to stay with in a 4 grand budget and make 350 horsepower

350hp is nothing to make starting with a roller 302. Just the roller cam choice alone is worth the switch.

thanks for the reply so this combo will work provided i swap out the cam and lifters etc. in the edelbrock top end kit with a roller cam-lifter setup

You're better off buying the heads & intake separately. Take a roller 302, top it with the RPM heads, RPM intake, 600 cfm carb and this will work with any O.E type hydraulic roller cam you choose.

either kit you go with you need to check the piston to valve clearance! We installed a performer kit on a customers 302 and will still need to notch the pistons.

Just my 2 cents but build a roller motor for it throw in a nice cam and a set of AFR 165's with a Performer RPM intake and a 650dp and have all kinds of fun
