Just wondering how many of you guys get pulled over for loud exhaust and your car isn't a piece of crap with mufflers falling off it. I just put on flowmaster 1 chambers with custom side pipes with box tips and yeah they sure sound frikin awesome but damn it all are they loud. I was yelled at by the cop who keeps targeting my stang in my city for having dumps on my 40 series. The A*shole pulls me over in my driveway and gives me a verbal warning. Their is no decibal limit mentioned in my city's ordnance it just says car must have mufflers in good working order not producing an excessive or unusual noise. but because i have side pipes and the sound is directed right at the guy next to me instead of reflecting off the street like dumps it sounds like frikin open pipes with a flowmaster tone. i cant put dumps back on it and tailpipes sound like crap with those mufflers. LOL

maybe i should've posted this in the talk section sry my bad

Anyone else want to share their getting pulled over for loud exhaust stories?

Sounds like that cop has a hard on for you. I can't see how its any different from a loud Harley? I had a car with Spintech side exhaust that drew alot of attention. Cops left me alone as long as I was not being a jackA#^. I live down south, so I think cops are use to loud RAV's (Red Neck Assault Vehicles)

I am running Off Road H pipe, and Dynomax Race Bullets with no tailpipes. I have been pulled over 2 times, but both times they just wanted to know what I was running. I try to take it easy in town, and hope my luck continues.

Here's your problem -- "an excessive or unusual noise"

That's subject to a completely subjective judgement by the cop, someone else that complains, or ultimately a judge. If you're tired of being hassled about it, quiet the car down.

ive been pulled over 4 times since ive had the stang.. the first time was because my windows were tinted to dark.. first of all it was night, so you wouldnt be able to tell anyway, and second my windows arnt tinted to begin with.. the other three times were because of my exhaust.. each cop asked if i had a muffler on my car and i said everytime "yup.. actually ive got 2 ".. i hate cops that pull you over and give some bull**** excuse as to why they did

In Florida there is a law against exhaust systems," That are louder than the factory installed equipment ". Its kind of encompassing. I think ricers are not only loud but annoying with their buzzy sound, yuk.

It sounds better than I thought it would. I got them mainly because of there small size, lite weight, and very low loss. The car is being built as a weekend play toy, so a little loud is fine. I was very pleased to not have any of the popping that you hear from most of the mufflers this size. My car does not have any of the tar type sound deadening stuff, no padding, or carpeting, so I hear every bit of the sound, so would not want to take a trip like this, but 100 mile cruises are fine.

I am running a 600 lift, 248 duration cam, and these mufflers sure let the cam sound come through. The down side to them, It blows the sleeper image I started out looking for.

Yep, I got pulled over 3 miles from the house after a LONG trip back from Atlanta. I've got a 347 10 1/2 compression 347 with long tubes off road h-pipe and two chamber flows and it is loud but not Harley loud.

Anyway, he pulls me over and tells me he has been "looking" for a red Mustang. I told him I been looking for a White Castle for the last hour. He wasn't amused and I didn't care. He said we had reports of Mustang doing burn outs. I told him I have been on I-24 for the last three hours and he said "yeah right". The I whipped out a receipt I had from a Shell station from about an hour ago with date/time. Well then he went ape, telling me my car was modified and too loud to be driven on the street and all the other b.s. he could think of.

I finally told him go back to your car and write me a ticket what ever b.s. ticket he could think of because I got to go. No amount of being nice was going to get me out of a ticket. So he gives me a ticket for loud mufflers and begins to give me a speech. I took the ticket from him and drove off while he was still talking.

Based on your story, the term "Nucking Futs" seems appropriate!

Based on more than a few years of driving, I've found that there's absolutely no upside to responding with anything but yes sir/ma'am - no sir/ma'am with cops. They have one of the crappiest jobs there is so it never pays to make it any crappier for them - no matter how badly you may want to at the time.

I got pulled over.
I have shorty headers, 2 1/2" ORH, 2 chamber dronemasters with 3 1/2" tails.
I was polite as usual, I even let it slip out that my old man was a cop for 17 years before being forced into early retirement due to a life thretening injury.
I got a ticket.
I tried to fight it in court pleading the "but judge he had no decibil meter" defence.
Felt like I almost won, but I didn't.
I paid the $157.00 fine.
That was over a year ago, I haven't made any changes.

Yeah I had a Harley fly pass me today, it was way to loud, to the point where it hurts your ears. With my exhaust setup, I've never had a cop pull me over. Then again, I never race my car or anything like that, shift about two grand. Yeah, call me a grandpa lol.

I got pulled over in my old camaro for having the turn-outs under my doors. He said my car was loud (header mufflers) but only sited me for the exhaust not exiting behind the rear seats. Not really a ticket, but I did have to change the tail pipes. As soon as I got the ok from the DMV inspector, I ripped the tails out and went back to my turnouts.
I was stopped twice in my Stang. Once in a parking lot and once late at night. Both times I was in a bad mood and running the motor higher than I normally would. No tickets...just warnings. "Take it somewhere else" YES SIR!!!
It never pays to argue with cops. Let them rant and rave all they want but know your rights and know the local laws. If you think you are being harassed and keep getting attitude from officer or the same officer, start carrying a tape recorder in your car. Before the officer gets to your window, have it on and in plain site. Want to see an officer change his tune? Do this....The Deputy Chief told me to do this.
Only the Harley guys get away with being obsenely loud. The whole "Loud pipes save lives"..Its true. A lot of accidents are caused by people not looking. What else is there to do but make nosie to get thier attention.
Damm harley guys set me up one night. I pulled up to a light and there were a bunch of them sitting at Dunkin dounuts. "Light um' up!!" About 10 of them..."Don't be a ..... and smoke em!!!" Well, I did, and there was a cop sitting just behind them. They got a good laugh out of it...Fat fers....

Yes sir.

Michael is right. You can't win. Anything you say will be interpreted as argumentative.

The only way to win is to go to court. Use logic and reason (and tons of Judge ass-kissin). State your case, be factual. I took my car to the local sniffer and had a sound reading. I was under by 1 decible. But, it was all I needed.

that's the reason i will not run an off-road hpipe.it just cuts out alot of hassle and my dynomax surperturbos are very mellow at cruising speed and look like stock mufflers.my bigblock nova on the otherhand has 3inch 2 chamber flowmasters with dump pipes and the law doesn't even look twice at me,just makes you wonder sometime.
