There is a loud squeaking noise at idle and especially when we rev it up. We tried some belt protection on the belt and pulleys, every so often it stops for a couple seconds, then whines up again, any ideas? We want to fix ourselves, it's a 2001 gt
Sounds like the belt. When I put spray on mine to make it quite it actually got worse, I did not have the money to get a new belt at the time, so I took it off and ran it through my hands with 150 grit sandpaper and it has been silent ever since.. Mine also was not cracked, or old, otherwise I would have just gotten a new one
Also wiped it down with carb cleaner and a rag before, to get off any oil/residue . Most of the time just that will help. Take your belt off and spin the alt, water pump, tensioner ect...
