Does anyone know a company that sells louvers for a 87-93 hatchback?

Wow... I haven't even thought about louvers since... well... never. They were a leftover from the Cobra IIs that lasted until about the mid 80s. A few companies did make them for the 85 and 86s back in the day but I can't ever remember seeing them since then. I don't think I've ever seen or heard about anyone making them for the 87 and later cars.

Don't know who makes them , but they look great on the 4-eyed cars! I don't think I have ever seem them on an 87-93. I bet they would look good with the right rims ect, to compliment them. I am a huge fan of the more old school look on foxes. Hell I personaly have raised white letter tires on mine! I say go for it if you can find them.

My Cobra came equipped with them from the factory. The factory units are made of aluminum, attach to the hatch at the top with hinges that bolt directly to the hatch (not stick to the glass like aftermarket units.) Personally, I like the style of the factory units better too. You can usually find these on E-Bay or you may want to place ads on all of the Mustang websites (particularly www.foureyedpride.com .)

Here's a pic of mine.

I believe that the basic structure of the hatch is the same.

The hatches/windows are all the same from '79-'93. It's the rear spoilers that are different. The late '84-'93 spoilers are designed to be much closer to the rear window, interfering with the louver's lower mounting points. Ford changed the design of the rear louvers to accomodate these spoilers. My factory louvers fit with the '79-early '84 style rear spoiler (as can be seen in my previous photo.)

As for the mudflaps, well, my car also had those installed from the factory. As you can also tell in that photo, they're gone.

I'm not too sure about the aftermarket louvers. I know that some were made to fit with the later model spoilers.

Good luck!

Hissing Cobra you have one of the nicest looking foxes on stangnet. Everytime you post a pic of it makes me want to get a 4-eyed car. To me that looks WAY better than a fox that is lowered with 18'' rims, it has alot more classic muscle car look to it.

I had louvers on my car for about five years after I bought it (87)- I liked the way it looked but they rubbed the paint off spots next to the glass and rattled a bit after the first few months.

"Mud flaps" my ass- LOTS of louvers were on cars in the day-cheeky kids!

P.S.- No idea who made louvers- saw them in car mags all the time back then.

Try J.C. Whitney. If anyone is going to have them, I'd think that they would.

How's the visibility with the louvers on? do they help any with people that are behind you with their high beams?

Never had the louvers on the Stang but I've had them on other cars. The angle that they're cut at alignes with your field of view. The shouldn't obstruct your view out the back of the car at all. They will also no do much about headlights coming from behind you. They will however, greatly reduce the amount of light that comes into your hatch area from that circling police helicopter.
