Progress Thread Low Mile 89 GT Restomod - Done with the red, onto the trim

We decided to go with hood struts instead of a prop rod. I pieced together something starting with a kit from a BRZ off Temu. The kit was about $30 CDN and included mounting brackets and 11" (extended) struts. I purchased an additional pair of 15" struts rated at 100lbs ($48 CDN) as the originals are much lighter capacity.

Had to drill out the upper bracket for an additional hole to attach to the top hood hinge bolt. The lower section near the middle hole needs to be ground back a little bit (1/8-1/4") and I then welded up the middle hole for strength followed by a quick respray of semi-gloss Tremclad paint.


The lower bracket comes with an offset formed in it. I needed to straighten it back out to fit where I wanted it.


Install is in the top hinge bolt and the lower attached to the middle fender bolt.


All finished it works well. It is not bad to lower and has almost no resistance trying to push up for the last 3-4" before fully closed. The last pic is with a prop rod mocked up to show it doesn't open as far as the prop rod would hold it, but I'm pretty happy with it. We will see how it is longer term with use.

Though not going on my son's car, but I picked this up last summer and decided to clean it up/repair it a bit.



A previous owner had the thought of enlarging the inlet - probably thinking it was needed for a 75 or 80mm TB.




They bored a nice straight hole that fits a 3" piece of exhaust or intercooler tube inside (perfectly), but broke through the cast near the throttle body mount.

Damn, that's one rare ass intake to, smooth side production intake limited to first 500 or so 93 cobras.

Yes it is. That's part of why I wanted to fix it/make it usable.

I picked up a replacement pair of door moldings as the originals were a bit beat up.


Passenger side curled down toward thee ground at the front.


Cleaned up the old adhesive from the rear.

Last couple of bits got painted red. The door moldings and one of the side skirt pieces.

With the red done, its time to focus on getting some trim painted.



With the masking removed...




Got the wheels and tires mounted up...

Couldn't resist putting one of the rear tires on to see how it looks.

Refinished one of my spare sets of quarter windows as the original passenger side piece had some kind of fading or water stain under the glass, on top of the black background coating.


Then temporary installed (so they don't get damaged sitting around the shop).
