Low oil light comes on sometimes!!

What could the problem be? I have common sense and I know what everyone's initial reaction will be to the thread. But I checked my oil and it's not low at all, it's actually closer to the full mark. What would cause this? I am currently running 10w 30 (M1), and the oil only has about 2k miles on it. Could the weather make the light come on and read low oil? What could I do to prevent this? I have checked and there aren't any leaks. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

lol another dummy light gremlin those things arnt worth jack man. try pulling the codes if it doenst give any pull the sensor in the side of the oil pan and be done with it.

mine does the same thing usually when i park on an incline after i get it level i start it again and the light usually goes away.

this is y its called a "DUMMY LIGHT"....lol.....one more thing, y r u running 10 30 in ur car, ya its better for gas milage, but its like putting water in ur engine, everytime u start ur car in the morning its so bad cuz all the 10 30 oil just runs right out of the cylinders. my opinion put at least straigh 30w in ur car. i have 235k miles and i use 20 50 and i never have a problem.

Oh ok I do park on the hill sometimes so I reckon that is the culprit. How long have you been running 20w 50 stangman 88? What are the ups and downs for running 20w 50? Thanks again for the replys.

ive been running 20 50 since i bought the car 5 years ago......its good cuz it keeps the oil in the cylinders after a long night this way u dont have dry starts in the morning...............the only down side that ive notices is it take a few extra min for the car to warm up..............if u dont use 20 50, put at LEAST straight 30w in there, the 10 30 like i said b4 is like dumping water in ur engine, its so thin that it just runs right out of the cylinders at night while the cars off.

I use 20w50 also because its so thick. In the summer, 10w30 is way too thin. Dont run 20w50 in the winter but its fine in the summer. Also 20w50 can be used to stop leaks somewhat.

I run 10 40 and was always told to ever since 1987 in these types of old motors.

One thing we need to make straight here is CLIMATE! "Winter" could be 40* or -20* depending on where you live. The same difference could be for summer as well.


If I wanted to improve my oil pressure but not drag down the motor what oil should I use? Im in Minnesota right now- 50 - 90* during summer.

to gain oil pressure youll just have to move up in oil. maybe to 20-50. i always run 10-40. 20-50 is just a tad to thick for me. plus the weather here never gets really hot soo.... no real use.
