Lower intake install tips

I'm looking for tips that most people use to install the lower intake.

Things such as..

- What to use on the intake bolts?
eg. thread sealer, moly lube, loctite, antiseize

- Should I use any RTV on the intake gaskets and should it be sensor safe?

- Do I use the gaskets for the ends or just lay down some RTV and how much?

Thanks.

use oil on the bolts, gaskets go on dry, i just used a fat bead permatex black on the front and back sections of the intake.

Just use motor oil? I would have thought to use something like a thread sealer or moly lube, especially on those bolts around the water ports?

I like the alignment stud idea!

yes motor oil. thats what it said in the write up i was using for the install. not sure about the water ports, maybe some else can give some info on that.

There is a writeup on the FAQ sticky at the top of the 94-95 forum.

I use thread sealer on all 12 bolts, rtv around the coolant ports on both sides of the gaskets, and some more RTV where the head meets the block. The lower intake gasket set comes with 2 seals for the front/back of the block, and again, I put RTV at the corners and all along the top of the rubber gaskets.

Worked for all 3 intakes I have installed, leak free to this day.

You can buy studs to put at the 4 corners at ace hardware. They aren't expensive. The thread is 5/16NC or 5/16-18 thread count. I think the studs need to be 2-1/2 or 3 inches long total, so they will go all the way through the lower intake and then you can back them out and replace them with the factory bolts.

I also bought a thread chaser set from sears (not tap/dye set, thread chasers). That way the bolts will tighten extremely smoothly by hand, all the way until they are flush with the intake. And it prevents cross threaded bolts in your heads, which is a nightmare.
