Lowering springs just for the rear

Hello,

I have a 2008. I'd like to lower the rear only to get it a bit more even with the front. It's difficult to find just rear lowering springs. Most of the time it appears I have to buy fronts also.

I've found Roush part #401295 which is just rears, but Roush doesn't recommend those, they say I should use #402331 meaning I'm back to buying fronts. This kit has the jounce bumpers but is twice the price.

What has anyone else done?

the complete kit of most lowering spring sets are designed to give you a level look. the rear drop is a bit more than the front. unless you're running some different wheel sizes, why would you want to lower just the rear?

This is just a guess on my part, but I'm going to assume he's concerned about possibly bottoming out in the front.

I got the roush rear springs and it has been pretty good except for the part where the rear is definitely more stiffer then the front. My springs didn't come with jounce bumpers though.

Thanks everyone. I've ended up with H&R sport springs for the rear. 3/4" drop.

To answer the why only the rear question, I don't like the dog-in-heat look of the rear being high in the air. I'm also not ready to do the whole suspension yet, this is a cheap stop gap.

The BMR springs looked good, but I don't know about the 1 1/2" rear drop. Too many posts about related problems as the drop gets larger.

Glad you made a decision. For what it's worth, we ran the Roush rears only on our 2005 and it looked perfect. It evened out the gap, which is what you wanted to do. That's why I went with the Pro Kit on my '07, because it had more of a drop in the rear. I didn't like the disproportionate gap either.

+1 I love the even look my car has right now thanks to the roush. I hope that won't change much when the fronts go in.

Maybe some adjustable coil overs could be the answer, That way you could change it in whatever increments you feel necessary.

Roush sells their smaller drop (.75"-1") in just the rear only at several retailers. If I remember correctly, they were around $130.

I talked with Roush directly,and they did not recommend the rear
only use of their springs.I should have mentioned that I was
wondering about the H&R springs in my earlier post.

Well, it's odd that they sell them like that. Did they give a reason why?

Either way, there's many people running around with just the Roush rears. I have not heard of one person having a problem with them. Basically, if you want to level out your car without really lowering, that's the way to go.

Their reasoning was somewhat vague and I was not convinced
that the person I talked to was 100% sure that his advise was
correct.He did put me on hold and I felt he was asking someone
else for the answer.I personally can't see an issue,but the way
it went leaves me in doubt.I have confidence in Roush parts and
I wish the gentleman was more reassuring about their use in this
case.

Steeda sport springs are another good choice for lowering the rear only. I'll be installing my stockers up front soon and keeping the sport springs in the rear.

The reason would most likely be increased oversteer (read untuned snap oversteer) and shock wear. Two things Roush does not really want to be associated with or be responsible for.

So far I can definitely speak for the first. The ride is definitely more harsh in the rear then with the stock springs and the tail is more prone to swinging out under throttle. The stock front feels floaty and bouncy close to the limit compared to the rear which is not very predictable and can be confusing in performance/emergency situations if you don't know what you're doing.

I got the same idea from Roush, although I just figured they wanted to sell me their whole kit. I got the HR rear onlys from StangSuspension. They were $150 with shipping.

i have the FRPP 1.5" all the way around and it sits perfect level all around. When i look at before pictures i can't believe how High it was. I live in Maine with lots of hills and rough roads and havn't bottomed out yet, (even on a dirst camp road) just .02
