Lowering Springs?, whats the difference?

I've seen 2 kinds of lowering springs out on the market. Progressive rate and specific rate. What is the difference between them?

progressive......as the springs Compress under load (progresses) the rate increases, i belive its suppose to provide a nicer ride for a street application. a specific rate is that rate no matter how much the spring compresses it does not change. Specific Rate is probably more performance oriented as people will need certain springrates for their suspension needs and often order custom rates to their likings and what the application calls for
