Lowest Temp Thermostat

You are running richer than stock but its not to the extreme that you think. if you were able to look at you fuel trim, O2 and 5 gas analyzer readings and compare it to stock car you would be running a little richer (HC goes up and o2 goes down) .

Like I said its just an ASE answer (by the books) and NYS emissions cause of failure. Failed it twice. Now I wised up, so before i go to get it inspected i change my thermostat and I am good to go

I can look at fuel trims as well a lambda, o2 voltage, and KAMRF, and actual a/f via my wideband, and like I said, I don't run rich during closed loop.

a 180 thermo will not create operating issues. The car will not run rich.
The 192-195 deg. is better for emissions specifically at idle but it is not the best for performance on a modified car.
The 160 deg. themo is not recommended and may create emission issues without some reprogramming. You will not get full benifitof this thermo without fan-on/off reprogramming.
Note that the main benifit is in keeping the intake cooler. By not heat soaking everthing as much, this is where the performance gain comes from.
A 160 thermo may also prevent the oil from reaching opt. temp.
If the oil does not reach about 220deg.+ it is thick and will not cook off the water that developes from condensation.
In my other car the oil temp will not reach opt. temp. during the winter (I run a 160 with custom tuning for fan speed and fuel/timing tables).
This is not good for bearings, piston ring/wall and will not vaporize the water. I don't drive this car during the winter.

a curiosity... if one goes to a 180* thermo, can this be used as a poor mans way to richen the fuel a bit? think my intake mods have leaned me a bit much, and a thermo is cheaper then a tune(r).
