LS1 Dyno Request

Well

I know this is gonna seem strange being this is a Stang site
but
I wanna find some general info on these pushrod motors

David provided some excellent info on the 2nd pg in this thread

I would like to ask if anybody has a stock LS1 dyno pull

I want it to be done on a Dynojet with a SAE calibration
and
If by chance you have the numerical values of hp and tq also
well
That would really save me a good bit of work

I want to do some comparisons
Just to see how we stack up

Like Chad said ... that sure is fat for a NA pull

I would like to impose upon those of you who have a bit knowledge
about these motors

It takes a good bit of work to arrive at numerical values from a chart
and
Before I do it .......

I want to know if this motor and the results you see here are what you
might call normal or in the average range when you think of a stock LS1
you might find in a Camaro, Firebird, and the like

It looks like a good example above from an ls1 SS. Over 310+ it looks like, if I read it right. The 01+ have the zo6 (ls6) intake on them, which gives them a slight advantage over the previous models.

Wow those LS1's really got alot of potential. So they are pretty much held back by the stock cam?

More impressive though was the 347 wasn't tuned and ran a 11.1 compared to the t/a's 11.71 tuned.

Onlyme - You need to factor in race weight, suspension, etc.

They are held back by the camshaft, exhaust, heads, and the intake later on...

I thought about that after I said that, if the t/a was lighter and better suspension,etc, it probably would have been a drivers race.

That was about how I saw it as well

It don't climb above 300 rwtq until around 3800 rpm REALLY sux

I really do wish the pull was started MUCH lower
3300 rpm for a starting point

I like the ls1 stuff personally, so I love talking about them

I see them in the 285/290-310rwhp range, depending on what tranny and year model differences.

The SS and WS6 model ls1's, like the one above, seem to dyno on the higher side of the graph, so you can take that for what you will.

Yeah, 3,330 rpm is a higher than you other combo comparisons

Hey Guys

I did some reading over on that Chevy site

I think ... as I understand it

A4 means slush box
and
M6 means stick

This would mean the chart in question is for an auto trans car

I gotta say ... if that is so ... I'm all the more impressed

So just do what I did then Grady, drop in a 408 + and you get 365rwtq @ 2500 rpm! Oh and on the trannies? My lt1 put out as much auto as the m6. There was not much difference in the QM times between my auto and a stick. That was lt1 though. It was nothing like the slush stang auto! The lt1 auto rocked!.. ls1 auto prolly does too .

Yep, A4 = automatic 4 speed = 4L60E transmission.

M6 = manual 6 speed = T-56 (not to be confused with "our" T-56).

4l60e broke up it's own insides like a mofo tho. Not a good trans for longevity if you beat on it. Some of the L motors put out a lot of power, yet others I drove in were serious dogs. I was in an ss almost new with no power and died at 5000 rpm when myine pulled past 6k. it was like luck of the draw. I still dont know why.

Well Guys

Its gonna be a while until I get up some data

I gotta go out of town tomorrow
and
I just can't use that above chart due to two major reasons

1) It starts too high in the rpm range
2) It is an auto trans pull

All my data I got on Stangs are with a stick trans
so
It is imperative the Chevy be likewise

When I find the time ....
I'll Google up some more appropriate pulls from the dark side

I'll post em here

Hey ... You got to give credit to them Chevy boys

They did some real good stuff with a pushrod motor

and

I gotta say them Ford boys are a bunch of wussies :Word:

The should have kept one offering for peeps like me who don't wanna

HUH? All this time you've been liking the low end on yer 5.0. Why the sudden change o mind?

Finding some results for you:

"Last Saturday I had my car dynoed & watched a SOM ' 02 SS go before me.

6M, SLP 345 HP package (SLP lid & Center Outlet exhaust) - this car had 3K on the clock & was stock down to the paper element - I mean no mods .

314 RWHP !!"

" My 99 dynoed 284/299 at the wheels (M6) bone stock w/3K miles

My 02 dynoed 306/326 at the wheels (M6) bone stock w/1400 miles

They do seem to vary a lot..."

Typically they will dyno from 295-315 depending on the transmission"

Ford needs to build a 6 Liter, DOHC, Big bore V8 and put it in a Mustang. If they do that I will tattoo the running pony on my forehead, cash in my stock option plan and sell my child into slavery to buy one.

Yeah, my brother has a 99 (ls1) z28 m6, I have a 95 T/A (lt1)....and my stang

If I did it over, I would've got an LS1 and never looked back. Both f-bodies are stock, stock 3:42 gears. My lt1 can hang down low with the ls1 car, but I get walked up top. My stang is a freakin h/c/i car, I put down 296/315 on a mustang dyno...still on 2:73s

But, the LS1, IMO would give my car an asswhoopin as it sits. I know, I've driven both. The suspension is better, the cars are nicer, they have t-tops and a 6 spd, better everything all around...

Oh, and they actually have some sort of displacement
I've seen a lid, exhaust, tune car put down over 340rwhp. Cam only 408rwhp.

I've been back and forth for a few weeks now on selling my stang and my t/a and getting what I wanted back when I started but couldnt afford it.

The only thing I can see keeping you guys here is initial vehicle cost, and ease of operation (when it comes to taking apart the stang, its pretty easy to work on).

I've built all sorts of cars....IMO Ford sucks ass

My little ****ty tuned turbo 4cyl would kick it around. At least the mustang looks cool and sounds good....
