Has anyone ever heard of a foxbody with an ls1 swap? I would like to see this!

i think it'd be easier to swap in an 03 cobra engine, plus you can keep it all ford product

I know a guy did it with an LT1...it was pretty impressive how he brought over the computer and harness and all that to keep it fuel injected.

I would love a stang with an LS1 motor...Thats like the best of both worlds. Granted, Ford vs. GM, but come on...you cant knock the LS1 motor. That thing is freakin awesome stock, let alone modded !

I agree that its a great motor, but the 03 cobra motor is just as amazin in my opinion.

I dont really see the advantage. The 03 cobra and the new mach 1 motors are absolutely amazing. With a blower and or pulley swap and exhaust you are talking 600+ hp and drives like stock 03 cobra.

Those chevy small blocks are super expensive to mod. Intakes and such are outrageous.

Maybe im part of the younger crowd and have a different way of thinking. As long as its american in my eyes...its all good! Going fast is going fast...just do it with American stuff

Im not putting down the 03 cobra motor or the 4.6 DOHC engine in general. They are great also. But look at the power guys get with STOCK heads with a intake and cam on those LS1's. Throw some heads at it and a blower and see how much power it will make.

Its all good, everyone has their own opinion.

Please don't attribute yourself to the younger croud because being 25 I like to find myself in that area. Probably on the latter part of it. The LS1 motor is not structurally stronger and how money=power being the end product I don't see how its better. After 30+ years they better have worked all the kinks out of it. I am not saying its a bad engine because they do deserve respect... just not superior as stated. Any 351 with the same mods will at least equal the power but more so still be stronger and more reliable.

i agree, they are not gods gift to motors. put some equally well flowing heads on just about any similar displacement motor and throw the same mods on it and the thing is going to make roughly the same HP for the most part. I dont see anything wrong with putting chevy stuff in a ford or vice versa. I dont see how it could be even close to being cost effective though. and aftermarket heads for the LS1 isnt a great improvement over stock. the "lets keep a chevy in a chevy and a ford in a ford" almost sounds like a social issue (interracial marriages) LOL. i dont see what would be wrong if you mixed the two.

Another thing. HP is not everything. Between a similarly warmed up engine, the 351 will out torque the ls1 all day long too. I honestly have to agree.... Keep it to one company. I am not sure why but it just doesn't seem right. Kind of like frankenstein possilbly.

What's the stroke on a 351? LS1 is 3.622in (92mm). They are very torquey, as I'm sure you're aware. I too would like to see a comparably built 351 or 347 vs a LS1 w/ similar specs. Would be interesting to see what they do on a dyno, then how they perform at the strip

I believe that the 351w has a 3.5 stroke but I think it has more to do with the fact that its a 90 deg. vx. 60 deg. block.

If you want to build a LS1 for your car, trying to rip one out of a vette, or F-body might cost a lot because of what it came out of ("that be a vette motor boy") No, all you need to get the expensive part is find any GM with a Gen III SBC, which is what the LS series engine is. All 97+ Vettes, 98+ F-bodies, 99+ Silverado series pickups. There are several, the 4.8, 5.3, 5.7, and 6.0. The '01+ 6.0 is a real good bargain because they had aluminum heads that flow similar to the LS6 heads, pre '01 many had iron heads. The truck intake flows like the LS6 also, the reason there is a difference between the truck and car intakes is because the truck intake would not fit under the hood of a F-body or Vette, but it would work great under a cowl hood of a Mustang.

Me Three. They all have potential, the advantage with the LS1 is the fact from the factory it's already pretty stout, the ford motor is going to need some work. If your starting from scratch, it's a toss up for the most part. Parts for the 351 will be cheaper. The only real advatages the LS1 motor has is the aluminum block, which you could get from dart for the ford, and the reverse flow cooling system where you could run more compression, the rest is all in how it is built.

I did, but I ain't givin up my 5.0. My truck has a LS1 in it, but it has a steel block, less bore and stoke, but I'll tell you it moves the truck. While most truck motors tend to fall off after 4000rmp, my truck's motor starts pulling harder but the tranny shifts at 5300 and I wish it would stay in gear longer because it just contiues pulling harder. Mine is only the 4.8, but in a regular cab short bed. I have read they run mid-low 15's bone stock with that confuguration, the 5.3 runs high 14's stock.
