Have any of you installed LT headers on your own (or with friends?) how hard was it? Is there anything I should know?

I installed them myself. Had to jack up the motor an inch or so, disconnect the steering shaft (easy), and remove the starter (easy). Sometimes you can get away without removing the starter, and once in a while you hear of someone doing the install without lifting the motor. But in any case it's not all that hard, plan on a few hours. Probably easier with a buddy, but definitely doable by yourself.

I did mine. Very easy if you have someone on top or bottom to help wiggle things in there. I removed my steering shaft (one bolt). I didn't have to lift the motor But that's not too common. I had an easy time getting my old exhaust off (15k miles and no winters/rain), but for most cars it's best to spray up the bolts with WD-40 the night before to loosen things up.

Thanks too Jake, I forgot about getting some lube on those bolts. My car is originally from Chicago so it's pry gonna be a b***h to get them off there.

I installed a pair of BBK LT's on my GT. I was a little bit lucky though, I had the top of the motor off and installed them from the top
I put MAC longtubes on my 94 earlier this spring. I didn't have to jack the motor or take the starter out. It took a little work to slide them in, one side from the bottom (can't remember which side) the other from the top. The hardest part I found was getting all the bolts started with MAC's indivual flange design. Next time around I'll use header studs. Job took maybe 2 1/2-3 hours tops.

Use penetrating oil instead of WD-40, that will work a little better. When I put exhaust on, I soaked everything the night before and I didn't have any problems breaking bolts loose.

Pretty simple job, just takes a little time... I did all the prep work knowing it would be a lot easier.. So I pulled off all the rubber intake tubing, then jacked the motor up... Pulled my Mac Shorties, and did the MAC LTinstall by sliding the passenger header from the top, and the drivers side header from below.. I bought the ceramic coated version, and was real surprised how easy it was to get all the bolts in (by hand)....

just unbolt the motor mounts, put a block of wood on the jack and put it under something like the oil pan.

Be prepared for the smog tube that goes to the cats...that little mother can be a pain to get undone....the factory clamp crimps the lines together bigtime...more than one of us have fought with that one...
A hacksaw will make short work of the connection if you can't get it undone...Its not a problem if your not going to reconnect the tube to your H....otherwise a short lenght of hi-temp hose (6") will fix the connection to the H...

not true. my drivers side fit so much easier goin from the bottom. undid a brace or two under and it slide up pretty easily. the passenger coming from above was a pain. had to use a rubber mallet and beat the sucker a few times to clear the frame. its all worth it tho
btw, i had to jack up my motor too so be prepared
Sounds like it's a fairly easy job. I wanna do all my exhaust at once (headers, midpipe and catback) so maybe that will make it a little easier also?

Do you think I should get rid of the smog before I do the headers?
