LT Headers = No AC?

My engine compartment is considerably hotter now (most of the mods below are new). I suspect the LT headers have a lot to do with that. But maybe the tune (or lack thereof) of the HCI is doing it too.

In any case, it's pretty darn hot in there. And the AC lines run right by the headers.

I put heat shielding on the larger, black pipe. And I bent it up a bit to get 3/4 inch clearance from the header. Would it help to shield the small, silver pipes too?

Is this a common issue with LT headers?

BTW, the stock temp gauge is still reading "o" to "r" on the "normal"

It shouldnt be a problem. My large equal length Bassani headers come with about 3/4 of an inch from the AC lines. I have never noticed a difference or any problems.

I have run LTs for 4 years now...I never really noticed a big change under the hood...after a year I did H/C/I....First thing I noticed after the swap was the u/hood temps went way up...
Thats part of the reason I just this week opened up the cowl my Cobra R hood, to get some heat outta there...when its sitting there idling it pumping heat out bigtime now, from opening the cowl...
I run all stock cooling...192 stat and all...My AM gage reads 196-200, 95% of the time...today it was like 90 and crazy humid.. I let it sit and idle while going into a store for smokes, I come back out and its still sitting at 200 deg on the gage, never jumped a degree..It seems hot but it runs just fine...These motor's seem to like it hot, going by u/hood temps you'll freak..but the gage dont lie...Its surprising how hot "you think" these run..I see alot of people freak on these running hot..my feeling is they do and like it...

I've had lt's for several years and have not had any probs like you speak of.

I keep saying I'm gonna reroute the ac drain so that when I pull the Stang in the garage I don't hear the snap, crackle, pop, hissing sound form it dripping on the hot headers, lol.

I installed LTs (1998) in florida... no issues with under hood temps. Installed Intake (1999) in Washington... no issues. Installed heads and cam (2000) in Washington... Underhood temps started to melt my energy suspension motor mounts... So I had to heat wrap them. Now I run with Jet-hot coated LTs, no issues. During this all, I had no issues with the AC (Other than an AC line leak... that has to be replaced).

I hate that. My mom's v6 does it worse then my Cobra ever has. Seems like on her v6 it drips right on the collector too!
