What do you think would make a better car for a highschool senior, a lt1 fbody(1993-1997), a 4.6 sn95(1996-1998) or a 5.0 sn95 (1994-1995)? I know a rwd v8 isnt the most practical car, but from these three choices what would you pick and why?

look were your posting this :D

I would pick the 94-95 5.0.

1. cheap to come by now

2. ROCK solid as far as driveline if you find one stock or close to stock.

3. cheap parts (compare to 4.6)

4. LARGE aftermarket for those cheap parts

5. You wont need to work under half a dash to do anything and the dizzy is were it should be ie. not down under the water pump.

In order (choices you gave) .....

1.) 94-95 Stang (sound, price, looks, and # seen on the road).

2.) 96-98 Stang (still has the "look", little more $$, not pushrod).

3.) 93-97 Crapmaro (tougher to work on, ugly, and the mullet prerequisite).

After owning both I would say V6 Mustang with a limiter at 60 and rev limiter at 2500 RPM.

BUT if you want a car that ROCKS, LT1 will kick azz. I owned one, it was fast. It took a lot to get my sn95 anywhere near it. Look at the mods in my sig. I am faster than my old one now but not by alot. Not trying to p.o. any of my Mustang friends here as I love the stang but just being honest.

Well posting here your going to get biased opinions, I would have to say the 94-95 5.0 Also, I have abosoulty loved this car, sure its not as fast stock for stock, but you can get to the engine easier and working on it is alot easier. its nice beating those 5.7's with our 5.0's :)

uhhhh, not to call BS but I have seen MANY MANY MANY 87-93 foxes in damn near stock (timing and drop in K&N only) beat the LT1 fbody. One of those was a buddies mothers car that had half a roll of paper towels stuck in the air silencer (that is how stock it was).

The 94-95's will need some mods but I dont think it would take H/C/I to do it. Its only on avg. going to take a 13.8 or so to beat an avg. lt1.

Also one word...Optispark...

I had to edit this post because it sounds like shouting again, lol. I have been over in xxxx club forum too much or something..Ahhh

AUTO LT1, no mods my LT1 ran 14.0. Stock sn95 = 15.0.

Automatic vert ...... of coarse it's going to lose, lol.

I've ran 2 LT1 Firebirds with my current mods. First one was stock & I smoked him. Second one had mods (who knows what) and he smoked me. Driver has ALOT to do with it, too.

personally I would go with a 96-98 cobra...
300hp stock with plenty of upgradability in the future if stock isnt fast enough for you.

The question is does looks matter? Both the firechicken and 94/95 stag can be made to go fast.. If you want flat out stock performance the firebird is gonna win hands down.
But IMHO the firebird looks like a batmobile.

I drove a 94 Firebird (or trans am not sure which butit was red and looked like the bat mobile). After getting out of my 90 gt, that firebird felt really slow. I can't explain why.

i have h/c/i/boltons, and my buddy with a 96 T/A with cai/gears/catback/cam are dead even. neither can pull on each other, and we both make 300/320rwhp/tq on the same dyno on the same day. his torque curve is 10x flatter than mine also.

for cheap speed i say the LT1--yes i said cheap speed. also the 4.6 sohc is no more expensive to mod than a 5.0

if it were me i would find a M6 95 Z28 with no t-tops--except no substitutions.

not going to argue the 94-95 times as yes they will take some mods, but not H/C/I to do it. However, you posted 86+ and I will have to say I have seen many 13.9-13.8 stock foxes and that is what I had issue with.

Stock LT1 fbodies run mid-14s with average drivers (90% of people) and low-14s with good drivers. A real shiftmeister can crack a 13.9. They aren't THAT fast...certainly not out of the range of a bolt-on SN95.
