OK, so Marcus is the luckiest damn person on the planet. He won 3 prizes from the raffle at the Saleen Show this weekend. A microwave, creaper set for the garage, and digital home entertainment system (the grand prize!!). I told him to go directly to Vegas while he was hot. Some people's kids...

Sorry Sal.
I have been swamped with work and away from the forums a while. It was nice meeting you and your wife at the show.
As for the raffle prizes I gave away the microwave, kept the creeper and entertainment system. Have not used either yet. You know I only purchased $14 worth of tickets. I should have just pulled out of Saleen's parking lot that Sat. and drove straight to Vegas. Would'nt my wife had been pissed.

Apparently I should have gone with you when you left to buy lunch tickets. That's when you bought the lot of winning raffle tickets right? Not a bad return on your $14 investment huh. BTW, given your luck, your wife wouldn't have been mad after she counted the winnings from your Vegas trip! It cracked me up when you tried to get her to pick up the last prize you won...

Mike, that would have been total embarrasment if I had won that printer. Between you and me we deserved the prizes considering the fact that the white cars got shut out. I heard one Saleen employee say he had not seen that many 94-98 S351's in one place since production in the late 90's.

Alot of those guys around Saleen at the show were Ford Mo. Co. employees. I sure hope that Fords involvement here and in Michigan will bring new life at Saleen.

Sal. That wasn't even my wife that was my buddies wife. He owns Haney Motorsport. Real nice guy. We went to high school together. I had to send my wife on a shopping spree for the day so I could get a hall pass for the show. If you add up the Pottery Barn and Crate & Barrel reciepts, even with my winnings at the show I lost money that Sat. All worth it.

HaHa, the things we'll do for a kitchen pass. Actually, you need to look at the winners of our class again. The white cars didn't get shut out. The third place winner was the white s351 to the left of my car (the guy was at the SCOA dinner for a while). It's not cool that the 1'st place and 3'rd place cars were on either side of me! Does that mean I made them look good :( ...

That was Dave. It was about time he won something, as he has not won anything at the show for the past 6+ years if I remember correctly.

Hey now...I received 3rd place last year, 2nd place at the 2nd annual. Everything in between the 2nd annual and last year is a blur!!! I just remember that I have fun every year!

Great to finally meet you Sal. Sorry I had to bail early at BJ's, we had evening plans. Marcus, I didn't get a chance to meet you but at least I'm able to put a face to the screen name!

Sorry about forgetting your name, I'm bad like that (you'd think your's in particular I would remember  ). Anyways, it was nice to meet you as well. Sweet car! I've got to do something about the shortage of power in my car. All those s351's and S/C Saleens gave me the itch in a bad way! Cosmetically I'm getting there, but I'm still bone stock and slow in the engine department. It's actually kind of funny. The car looks fast and sounds loud so I get every thing on the planet wanting to race. I just look at them like they aren't worth my time and gas, all the while knowing that many of them would absolutely roast me. :rlaugh: They are left wondering if they could have taken me and I don't have to suffer defeat, it's all good...lol

Let's not even discuss the award presentation or the trophies....Congrats to Dave for at least bringing 1 trophy home for the SCOA. Kinda funny how ever event/class related to Saleen had an SOEC member mysteriouly take home first place?????? We all know that most car shows are politically judged, every one in the host club some how always win's. In years past, the Saleen Show was different and that is why it was such a big deal to win an award because there was no host club other then SOEC (and no other Saleen club really existed!!) Now all of a sudden, another Saleen club is around and proof, political, political, political........Don't get me wrong, all the cars that took home trophies in our class were awesome cars (especailly the SA -15), but for my speedster to go from back-2-back 2nd place finishes to nothing at all with less competition (in my opinion) in the field is very questionable????? (Dave will recall previous years, Grape Ape, Dean's ultra clean Saleen Cobra, Steve's old yellow SR, a rainbow S351, etc...) It just sucks to see yet another Car Show turn into host clubs winning everything (except the raffle :P )............another item that fried my antenna was how MR. Morales wouldn't split up the class into open and closed even though we did have 10 pre-registered cars in the class and the flyer did say that would happen if that exact number per-registered. His excuse, "well, it's gonna make more work for our staff!!...........Ok, I'm done venting..........
On a more positive note, damn fine to meet everyone at the show. It's great to finally put faces to signatures from this board. Hope all had a good time and hope everyone is looking forward to all the future SCOA events that we are hard at work planning.

I wasn't aware of the politics you speak of, but I personally voted for the cars I thought were the nicest. Then again, I couldn't tell you what car was from what club. As a matter of fact, I couldn't even tell which cars were the winners, with a few exceptions. As people were receiving their trophies I found myself wondering what car was theirs!! If politics did play a major factor, that really stinks. However, I probably wasn't the only one that voted like I did and didn't know an SCOA from a SOEC member car.

You probably should have parked next to me! That worked for the 1st and 3rd place cars. I saw what win's shows, and w/ the exception of the SA-15, it wasn't all original cars. That's OK, wait until next year when the HRE's, speedster cover, brakes, Heat extractor hood, and Saleen Recaro's are on the car (yea right, come on Lotto...). I didn't see any other Violet cars there this year though, mine was just to plain... :D

Don’t feel so bad, Sal. One year I saw a black ’99 or ’00 coupe place second or third. All it had for mods were black painted door inserts and a Dense Charger. See a “plain” car can win at the Saleen show. Of course, it may help if you are a cute girl with a bubbly personality and know a lot of the “right” people.

I can’t say anything definitive regarding politics at the show. I have participated in three of the last four years and gotten zilch but that’s o.k. The voting is by the other participants. There were many deserving cars in my class.

If you are prone to conjure up conspiracies, think not about the results being skewed by the voters. What goes on behind closed doors during the tallying of the votes?

One thing that bugs me about shows in general is there are cars that are owned by individuals who work at performance shops. They typically have a big advantage over those who don’t get parts at a discount, don’t have a fully outfitted facility for working on cars and don’t have free labor and technical support available to them. In addition, those “shop” cars end up competing against the people who provide income to the shops. In the early days of car audio competition, this sort of unbalance was addressed by making “Pro” classes for shop-built or employee owned vehicles. I don’t ever expect a car show to break out “Pro” cars. That would just add more classes, cost more money, etc. It is just something that irks me.

Sorry for adding to the off-topic tangent of this thread. Lucky Marcus!
