Lunati 51014 or Stock Cam with 1.7's?

I have the Lunati 51014 cam (218/226 @ .050 500/510 lift with 1.6 rockers) that I am installing in my 5.0. I have researched the cam and it seems to be a pretty decent cam with mostly positive reviews. Few have said that it caused idle issues.

Here is my question. With my below listed combo, should I install the Lunati cam and 1.6 rockers or stick with the stock cam advanced 4* and add 1.7 rockers?

I am looking for a good idle with no or very little issues (hunting or rolling). Good steetability and that will pull to about 5500-5700 rpm.

My combo is this:

302
E7 Powerheads
TMoss ported stock lower
Accufab 65mm TB and FRPP 65mm ERG spacer
New FRPP 19lb Injectors
1 5/8 unequal shortys
windage tray
new timing chain
new standard volume oil pump

Going into a 1991 LX Vert
AOD
Lentech Street Term VB
2800 non-lock stall
4.10's

Think that should cover what is needed to help me in my decision.

I'm running that exact cam in my 331. With 1.7's. No idle issues at all with chip. Make sure you check for piston/valve clearance.
I look foward to seeing that car come spring (Rona)!!! Then I can hit you up with some serious Q and A time about your car...really nice times dave! Perhaps this coming year I can budget my time a little better and get to Windsor weekend with you guys.
 
With the stock cams there is HUGE variability in specs. We've seen posters that measured their cams come up with intake durations at .050" that varied from 208 to 219 -- all the 'same' stock cam.

In any event you need to measure your stock cam -- and then determine the valve timing. But if you're trying to raise the rpm level at which it makes power, you're likely going to have to install the stocker RETARDED, not advanced.

Hard to tell for sure with only lift and duration info - but I don't think the Lunati you're looking at is even close to the stocker. If you're looking for an alternative to the stock HO cam - I'd check out CompCams XE258 or XE264. Be sure you have enough spring on those E7's for whatever cam you choose.
