I love the GT lights. As long as they don't have wax dried up on the lens, and they don't have chips in the corners.

Here's some of mine. My old cheese graters were faded so needless to say these look 50x better. I love em.

Your GT looks freaking badass bro

What does it all involve to take out the GT Tail Lights and put in LX Tail Lights? Besides the junk yard, where can you pick up the LX Tail Light Assembly for a decent price?

I bought mine from www.50resto.com, about $100 bucks if I remember right. I couldn't find any used ones that weren't scratched up and faded and wouldn't look like crap with new paint. They come as the lenses. What you need to do is take off your old taillights and peel the "cheese grater" lenses off the base. Make sure they're nice and warm cuz they are held on there with bugle tape. They can be tough to take off sometimes. I took the base and cleaned them up and painted them black (stock was red) cuz they were faded and black was going to look better with the LX lenses. Really the only part you can see the base from the outside is beside the license plate, but you can see the tops very well when you have the hatch open. The new LX lenses came with new bugle tape, all you do is mush it down in there and press on the new lenses. There are some tabs in there as well that might need to be tweeked a bit, you'll see once you get the old lenses off. Again make sure you're in a nice, warm place when you press on the new lenses or the bugle tape won't seal and you'll get condensation in there. Good luck.

those are 85/86 taillights. cobra taillights are the same thing except they have pin stripes on the lenses.

I agree - too much red on a red car like that but I still like 'em. Not my first choice though.

I didn't mind the GT 'graters but I wanted a change, so I ended up with Cobras and love them.

Here's the best shot I have, which also shows how the Cobra rear bumper looks at the 3/4 view It has a lip just nowhere near the likes of the GT

SVO and Cobra tail lights have the striping. 83-86 GT and LX tail lights are the same style but WITHOUT the stripes. They made the SVO (and later, the Cobra) lenses from the older ones by adding the stripes.

Mine are replicas which I made from old GT lenses + black pinstriping. I didn't like the originals because the stripes weren't solid or dark enough for my taste. Many do the same, not many can tell the difference.

No PS skills here, but I like how the GTs look on your car. I wish I hadn't buggered up my graters... didn't know they sold for lots :stupid
I've got LXs on mine, but I've grown tired of the look. Seems like there are too many GTs running around with the same deal... those 85/86 look kickass. Kinda old looking.

If you have a red GT I think the graters look fine.I personally don't care for the LX lights on a GT unless its white and the Cobra lights leave a big overhang gap with the trunk lid I couldn't live with.
