Maybe you should contact MAC directly and have them explain it to you. Maybe they sent you the wrong size filter:

I already called, it's the right filter that comes for that kit. I see you have the same kit, what direction is your filter in the fender. Up and down, or left to right?

hey that filter is a pain in the butt. Everytime i have to reach in there to get it out i remember it's a pain to put back in. Ok well the filter should go in verticaly. They prob show it horizontal but yea it wont fit at all. So just take your time with it and try having it go verticle. the filter may get pushed some and have a dent but it wont hurt. The problem i had was getting that clamp on it. Soi just put 2 zip ties together, works friggen awsome.

It's hitting this lip just up and to the right of the filter. That is what's keeping it from going on. Your saying, just push away? lol

This is a dumb question, but which coupling do you use at the the throttle body, the one that's the same size or the one that's 2 different sizes?

My filter is in left to right (horizontal). It probably makes no difference in its functionality if its vertical vs. horizontal or the instructions would have addressed that. Mine was also a PITA to get tightened down. I removed the tire and that gave me better access to the fenderwell and it was easier to install. It's a lot of work for 1 hp........

You got yours in horizontally? Just like that picture? I see no way do that. Unless my 04 is different in anyway

I think I got it on, It's going up and down. There is no way in hell that thing could go in horizontally. If it stays on when I actually get on it, it'll be a miracle.
