I just picked up a used MAC h-pipe. it's used, but in good shape HOWEVER the hangers are cut off. I thought I read somewhere that this was done on purpose (if the pipe hangs too low). Should I get new hangers welded on?

any help would be appreciated.

I have a MAC cat H pipe with the hangers cut off. The hangers won't fit if you have a Tremec 3550 or TKO. There hasn't been any problems with it and it has been on the car for 5 years or more.

JRICHKER - I actually have a tremec on the car, so your saying that the brackets would have to be cut anyways?

LANGWILLIAMS - that sounds like a good idea.

Does the h-pipe hang low without the hangers?

ALSO - I don't have the air tube that goes between the two pipes. what can I use for this? I was thinking coolant hose.

thanks again. Scott.

It may hang slightly lower than normal, but often the tensile strength is strong enough for it to stay up tight.

Some of used some heavy duty coolant hose for that connection.

Then again, some just delete the smog pump entirely, run a shorter belt, and clamp that provision on the H-pipe.

I think on a chevy with the donut gasket it may be a little hard on the gasket with the extra stress from the weight but that may not be the case with most fords...But I like to have as many hangars so my exhaust is solid and wont wobble around and hang low

5spgt - I've actually been running without cats for years now, but it's getting too costly to keep doing the runaround for emissions. testing used to be every 2 years, and I didn't mind spending a little extra to get it to pass, but now they are switching to every year and it's just not worth it. I've since bought a larger belt to run my air pump, and picked up an h-pipe from ebay.

I'll get the pipe fitted in place and see if I can't get a couple hangers installed somehow.

With a Tremec 3550 or TKO, one of the hangers interferes with the speedo cable. The other hanger was so difficult to fit that I just cut it off.

My hangers were cut off too. You don't need them. I took off the hangers on the crossmember too. If your pipe hangs to high or low...you can always bolt it up then heat it in the areas you need it to move around. That worked awesome on my last car.

what was the best year for the snake cosidering, the block itself, horsepower/torque rating, and actual HP performance stock off the show room floor? anyone, what about the rare corba R's, I thought there was a year ford did a snake with a 351, or maybe it was a saleen!

I just cut the hangers much shorter on my very vile fitting BBK catted H. It did make it much easier to get out but I don't know about putting it back in. You'd think for $400 that the damn thing would fit right but the pipes going up to the headers are about 3/4" too close together and it's tough to get it on. My off road H fits like a glove as does the factory H so it's not an issue with my headers. I need a way to spread these pipes so it fits right I guess.
