I just recently picked up a 89 Mustang GT which has the origional American Thunder 2 chamber kits. I was told they dont make these mufflers anymore?? Not sure on that but thats not the question the question is I was thinking about replacing the kit with the MAC cat back kit instead of the Flowmaster. You can always know a Flowmaster mustang coming so I wanted to be different, Im curious on the sound of the MAC exhaust, Throaty sounding at Idle? Thanks....

I bought a mac catback system because i liked that the tailpipes have a bolt on flange in the bend that goes over the rear axle which makes installing much easier without having to jack the car sky high in order to get the tailpipes in and the sound is awesome even with my catted magnaflow h-pipe, flowmasters have too much interior resonance that will pop your ear drums.

I bought MAC. The kit lasted fine, but it fit like junk. With stock h-pipe, the flow tubes were too short and the whole cat-back was too far forward on the car. Hit on the axle over bumps and the pipes were too far forward. it always loosened up because the pipes were hitting

Sold it for $50, bough a flowmaster American thunder cat-back that fit 10X better and haven't looked back.

Soundwise....your call. I like flows. Could care less that it sounds like every other Mustang. It's a Mustang...not much originality left to be had.

I've always loved the sound of flowmasters no matter how many other Mustangs have them. It's somewhat of an iconic sound. I had 2 chambers for a while and then switched to 3 chambers after removing the cats and installing the blower. Loved the way the car sounded. Now, with the new turbo build, I'm going to have to ditch the flowmasters for some magnaflows, which I'm not super excited about.

Hmm interesting I was acutally going to go with a new set of mac 3" because I thought they would be easier to install and read they fit well. I know over the years I went through sets of there headers, prochamber mid pipe, offroad pipes and the fit was middle of the road.

In all fairness, i do need to add that i bought my cat-back in 2000.

So fit could be different now. But i wasn't confident enough to order another cat-back setup and try it out. I'm a 1 chance only kinda person.
