My local speed shop said if they swapped out my Mac O/R H pipe with a Mac Prochamber it would pass visual inspection for having cats.

Does this sound true?

Btw, I'm in Buffalo NY (no emissions)

Only if the test guy is a moron and thinks the pro-chamber is a converter.

I've actually had a friend who was pulled over by a cop get off with that. The cop looked under the car and saw the box and thought it was a converter.

Yeah, dude I don't think so. You're better off spray painting a can of Pringles. Any way, where in Buffalo do you live? I'm in Lancaster.

I'm in the city near Buffalo State College. I visit my parents in East Amherst pretty often too.

Hell no man! I have one & I wouldn't dare go through inspection with it on..Almost got nailed at a random roadside inspection last week..my heart was in my stomach I'm thinking it might be time to take the tint off my front windows rather than go through that again!

Just curious...what "local" speed shop said you might pass a visual inspection. They might have been just joking around.

Depends on your state. Some states require the stock number of cats (four) and it won't pass the visual. In my state you just have to have a cat, aftermarket or otherwise makes no difference. I took my GT through emissions at least five time at different emissions stations and told them all it was a cat, and they believed me every time. It can be done, easily. However, it begs mention that the reason I did it so many times is that it kept failing... I couldn't make it pass the sniffer without cats, which makes it a bit of a moot point in my case.

My '84 had one big cat and duals. Not exactly a factory setup, but it was what it was.
