MAC Straight Shot Questions - Cant find info (A/F ratio?)

Hey everyone,

I got a reply in one of my threads about a side comment on the MAC straight shot. For how much it costs, I think that 17rwhp is great (claimed independent testing from stangnet tech article)! But one person told me that it would "lean my a/f ratio out" and that there were other questionable things about it. Now dont flame me and say SEARCH, because I have and I really cant find anything useful directly about this.

If anyone of any problems, issues, potential issues, with the straight shot, id be very glad to know!

i didnt get the one with the mass air, but i felt a little extra kick , however i went from averaging 20-22 mpg to 18-20, same thing when i put the x pipe on 22-24 mpg down to 20-22

I yanked my C&L MAF because this is exactly what it did - simply leaned the motor out. When you use the stock electronics in an aftermarket MAF, you end up screwing up the transfer. This is a poor, unreliable way to make power. I opted to be a little safer, and, honestly, noticed no loss of power when I went back to the OEM MAF. The OEM MAF is not restrictive.

When I put the MAC CAI on my car...my car runs a little lean now...like its not getting enough fuel....how can I fix this without spending 100 something to go get a dyno and tuned by them?

best cai in the market is stock air box with k&n filter thrown in. Save your money for a mod that works, like exhaust or pullies, the Cai theory is just going to leave you short$ and worse off that where you started.

So I should sell my CAI....and put my stock air tubing and filter box back in and put a K&N in it?

I used to have a MAC CAI......now I'm using the stock inlet pipe with a regular paper filter. What does that tell you?

Put the OEM MAF back on.

well i was the guy that was supposed to do the testing on my car with the straight shot. well the dyno was inconsistant as could possiby be so i didn't post the results. BUT, i did hook up the air/fuel bung up & it was in the 13's for 4 runs, if that helps you any.
since then i've taken it off my car cause..........you guessed it......it threw my ses light on because it caused my car to go lean

Ive heard that the only way to use the maf with the straight shot is to have a custom tune with it. If you dont want to do this just take the maf off and use the stock one. Thats what I did and the car runs fine with no light. Noticable power going from the stock tube to the straight shot system and no loss from the maf with system to the stock maf. Great kit just needs some tuning with the bigger maf.

did you get an adapter for the stock MAF? cause i tried using my stock MAF & it wouldn't fit with the straight shot

Yeah i called Mac and told them that the car was pinging under acceleration and wanted my money back because you shouldnt need a custom tune with just a cai. They sent me an adapter to use my stock maf to see if that would change anything. Works just the same with the stock maf and no noticable power loss.
