Mach 1 Break in?

How many miles do you think A new Mach 1 Needs to be driven until I could fully romp on it. I have 290 miles on it and i've been takin it pretty easy layin on the gas little by little. I can't resist the temtation! How many miles before I can let her scream????

I would not go over 4k rpms for 500 miles, then not over 5k rpm for 1k miles.
Change the oil at 500 mile just to get any shavings out.
After 1k miles let her rip.

I let loose on the Mach 1 we had at the Ford Dealership when I used to work there. I don't even want to mention the things that happened when I let customers test drive it. This car only had 10 miles on it, and it was inspected after every test drive and it was alright. Hell you bought the car for the muscle.....use it!!! Don't be worried if anything bad happens, that is what the warranty is for!

the new mustangs have modular bearings and ford claims that there is no break in period. On my gt i drove it 500 miles not going over 3k rpms then changed the oil. I then drove it for another 500 miles not going over 4k rpms then changed the oil. I changed the oil every 500 miles until 2,000 miles. I change my oil regularly every 1500 miles with motor craft 5/20 and motor craft filter.(only about 13.00$)

I wouldn't romp on it until it has 2,000 to 3,000 miles on it. You want everything inside the engine to settle properly. It takes about 3,000 miles for this to happen.

yea, i brought it up to 5 1/2 allready, oh well. Reamember the Mach redline at 7,000, so i guess its a little diffrent.

Romping on it a bit helps everything settle in there. Don't baby the car, let it get nice and warmed up, then give it some. I don't know about bouncing it off limiters right off the bat, but don't drive the car like it's fine bone china or anything.

You should be romping on it now, you only have a short time to seat the valves. Don't use Mobile 1 until at least 3k miles it's too slick and your engine won't seat properly.

^^^ That's what I'm doing right now. I'm @ about 400 miles so I'm dying to put on a few extra miles and change the oil. After I hit 1000, the tri-ax goes in and the fun begins...

i did that when i bought my last gt , but i got in trouble (my sister did f & i there). their tech was begging me to light em up, so i happily obliged. but i didn't know that her manger would get so pissed, he said that he saw how i drove & didn't want to hear about that car having any mechanical trouble

well that one wasn't a brand new one, & it wasn't a ford dealer. but she has since gone to a much better dealer & they take care of me

Maybe I'm crazy, but I think high performance Fords need to be beaten in, not broke in.

Of the SVT/GT's I've owned, the ones that gave the most troubles the soonest were babied like I wanted to keep 'em forever. But now I have to ask myself, "why bother? they ain't worth 2 nickels at the end of an extended warranty anyway".

The Tremec in these is going to give troubles or not, no matter what you do. Luck o' the draw. I think the stock 4.6 is pretty solid.

IMO, you should warm it up good and run the p|ss out of it whenever you have a chance. Of course... within reason. Going sideways across a bridge or swinging @ssbackwards into the opposite lane can cause traffic problems.

For me it's so hard to wait. I just made sure to just not drive at at a steady RPM (for like the first 500) and just hammered it once in a while.
