For me it's so hard to wait. I just made sure to just not drive at at a steady RPM (for like the first 500) and just hammered it once in a while.

when i bought my car, i think i babied it for 3 miles. then i got on it hard and have had 0 engine problems. i did vary the rpms a lot for the first 500 miles or so but dude, get on that car...rev it, do burnouts, really work it. don't baby a muscle car, that doesn't make sense.

Babying a muscle car is like modding a Honduh...just don't make any damn sense.

When I got mine it had 800 miles on it. I immediately changed the oil
and did not go up to 5k until after 1000miles. But I did stomp on it and
get to 4500rpm as quickly as possible.

Well, I took everyones advice and I let her Rip all the way up to 6 Grand today, now she has 380miles on her. Seems to drive a little smoother now that I opened it up, great advice

I just rolled over 2400 miles, and it still seems like it gets a little faster every day. I was pretty nice to it up to about 500, then just gave up the granny and started driving it proper.

the new mustangs have modular bearings and ford claims that there is no break in period. On my gt i drove it 500 miles not going over 3k rpms then changed the oil. I then drove it for another 500 miles not going over 4k rpms then changed the oil. I changed the oil every 500 miles until 2,000 miles. I change my oil regularly every 1500 miles with motor craft 5/20 and motor craft filter.(only about 13.00$)

This is good advice if you want it to last, if you want to trash it before you rack up 10,000 miles listen to the advice of people telling you to drive it like you stole it...

These cars are not designed to drive like granny's mobility scooter.

They actually NEED the workout.

You don't drive 'em like you mean it and you won't properly seat the rings. Worse... if you continue to baby the damned things, they will crawl like babies on race day.

We didn't advise him to drive his Mach into a wall or anything, just to drive it like it was designed to be, starting on day one.

Bingo.

Do that, plus I'd change the oil at about 500, maybe 1000 too, then 3000.

Love thy Muscle Car.

You know it WANTS to be rode hard and put away wet.

That's how I treated my very first V8 coupe (a '65 Pontiac LeMans, brother to the Goat), and it loved me for it. Lasted a long time too, and all my memories with it are fond.

my Gt just rolled over 9,000 miles and the last few days it really seems like my car has loosened up and really starting to tear a$$ now. Maybe it is just me but it feels like she is getting faster

the taking it east period was killing me. I hated it when duche bags would roll up in a grand am or something lame and look at me like they wanted to race at a stop light. I'd just let the clutch out and keep the rpms under 3500 and hate life. Now I have a little over 2000 miles on my GT, and I let those punks have it. And by the way, maybe its just me, but everybody wants to race. even soccer moms in minivans

You probably hate it even more knowing that you didn't have to do that. Both you and your car would have been happier killing some rice.

I've beat on my car since day 1 and it's been 136k miles with no engine trouble. I did change the oil a lot in the beginning, though. I changed oil at 500, 1000, and 3000. Then at 6000 I switched to synthetic and change the oil every 3000-5000 miles. Take that for what it's worth, I guess.
